Tyson speaks like a Valley Girl with a high rising terminal. Like Oh. My. God. Astrophysics?
@Garrett12406 жыл бұрын
@@Welcome2TheInternet Tyson doesn't speak with a rising inflection; in fact, he often slows down and elongates his words when ending a sentence. He does however just as often speak at a manic pace, especially when beginning a thought, and tends to dominate conversation which can be pretty irritating. A rising inflection is best seen in English's Australian, New Zealand, American West Coast and recently upper-middle socioeconomic class, and Canadian (most particularly Ontario) variants. But yes, Brian Cox is a joy to listen to and easily preferable to the more animated, less precise Neil Tyson.

I know i'm late for this party but I just wanted to say, the BBC is probably one of the most important things that happened when it comes to knowledge sharing. In the 80s/90s BBC started exporting their educational shows to other countries. In Portugal we got the BBC with subtitles, so we got to listen to Sir David Attenborough talk about all kinds of interesting things, while at the same time learning english from the subtitles. This was so impactful that even to this day people here still refer to educational tv shows as BBC, regardless of what network airs the show.

I don't think he's anywhere near the level you are describing. He's certainly incredibly intelligent. But he does shows and tours the world because he is smart AND good at talking in front of audiences. Don't get me wrong, he's very intelligent, but his speciality isn't being pure genius, it's being regular genius but also able to talk to the public with charisma. Most scientific communities have someone like him for PR purposes.

@@charlieb1575 I would actually disagree here. Was thinking about this early in the podcast. Who would I pick for the Nobel Einstein or Brian. I would say Brain. No doubt A.E. Was out of this world but Brian is as you say highly intelligent but he is at the same time very good at human relations, he is extremely social intelligent which A.E lacked. I would argue that Brian do much more for the human race then A.E because he makes people want to learn. I'm not saying this is right but I do see that there can be a chance that Brian in the end will give much more to our world
@charlieb15755 жыл бұрын
@@lassef3692 I agree with much of what you said, i think the difference we have to come to is what we find to be more important to helping humanity: absolute genius or genius that also helps encourage other genius. There is however an opportunity for redemption, scrape whats left of your mind out of the internet conspiracy gutter, and start paddling upstream to the promised land of knowledge and reason.
@Thisisahandle7018 жыл бұрын
Kurt Adams Kurt, what would you need to see as evidence? There is a reflector left on the moon, we shine a laser at it on a regular basis, this is how we measure how fast the moon moves away from us. The soviets witnessed the moon landing, do you not think they'd be the first to deny it happened? They didn't deny it. Furthermore any arguments about stars, shadows and flags have been debunked countless times. Also wheres the logic of designing, building, and testing rocket designs through millions of dollars and man-hours over many years, just to fake it at the end? Do you expect me to believe that not one of the thousands of ordinary engineers workers and supervisors suspected something was up? Not one of the massive number of people required to pull off such an astonishing unprecedented conspiracy ever told their wife or felt guilty and publicly admitted it in the 50 years since it occurred, long after the end of the cold war? Bill clinton couldn't keep it a secret that he got a blowjob. Also I'm not American, and as far as I know moon-landing denialism seems fairly restricted to within the US itself. Its a stupid inconsistent conspiracy theory, move on.
