@Nerd in Disguise As true as that is, teachers have to be the ones to engage the students, students go from class to class, it is usually a few hours before they get to your one, and by then all they think about it to leave.. Absolutely. thats his gift, explaining concepts that the layman can understand. i went to see Michio Kaku a few years ago having read a couple of his books and felt the talk was directed at schoolchildren, he explained everything like he was talking to a bunch of school kids when in fact it was a hall full of adults who had most likely read his books, the best part of the night was when the audience got to ask questions. thats when the real in depth stuff got talked about. there were heaps of super smart people in the audience that were well educated and could grasp the concepts and got to the really indepth stuff and thats when it got interesting, if there had been no q&a from the audience it would have been boring as shit. Brian Cox has the gift of explaining stuff that we normals can understand without being treated like dumbos. He's by far the best at conveying these concepts in a way most people can grasp. People who so easily dismiss actors as knowing little forget that they are TRAINED to MEMORIZE a massive amount of data in a short period of time. You can't be stupid to do that. And that means something. Imagine George Clooney given say 10 pages of medical jargon PER WEEK for YEARS, when even people training to be REAL doctors might have trouble remembering. The fact Joe was on a sitcom and had to memorize dialogue, or even his comedy routine, it isn't surprising to me he knows so much about so many things in general. And you could argue Joe isn't even a SERIOUS actor. Someone like Anthony Edwards, also on ER had mORE medical Jargon to remember for years longer than George. AND MAYBE we all hope we could get a doctor as seeemingly compassionate as Edwards appeared onscreen.

I'm not a scientist but I think what he's saying is if you used a laser, and pointed it over the horizon you would see the Earth curvature, while when it's used in space, there is none.... If I remember correctly they used a couple of lasers, and pointed them in such a way as to make a < shape. There was no measurable curve that you would expect in a sphere shaped expanding universe.
@jamesmorseman31804 жыл бұрын
@@RickySpanish12344 easier to think of it as that on the largest scales, parallel lines will stay parallel forever, and the angels of a triangle add up to 180 degrees. Neither of those would be true in a universe with positive or negative curvature. He doesn't mean flat as in the universe is 2D (which it might be btw check out the holographic principle) he just means that geometry is the same as it would be on a 2D surface which is the whole parallel lines and triangle thing.

Brian possesses every positive attribute an educator can have. I can imagine students fighting over seats for his lectures. His demeanor while guiding listeners through the most challenging concepts of this era never waivers in enthusiasm. Also his wealth of knowledge is just plain scary. What an awesome podcast....

Aside from empathy. He doesn't seem to understand why people want more from life. "What more do you want?" Not everyone wants to be an explorer or cares about exploring the universe, they just want to find purpose. He seems not to understand that (or feigns not understanding.)
@dreyn77802 жыл бұрын
Mister Spock told US the world was heading into an ice age back in 1975. Mister Spock was better at lying to us than Brian. Brian isn't being believed. You're NOT even allowed to introduce yourself, mike. One day you'll have to realize men HAVE taken up their arms again. You're NOT just going to talk rubbish to us any more. Students aren't even from this country. I've seen 30 foreign students walk right passed a woman getting 100 punchs to her head. They didn't call the police to save her. Students ARE totally selfish and no one should imagine such horrible creatures.

@@SirQuantization Why try to find a purpose? We are here because of the right chemicals/molecules interacting & creating life. There doesn't have to be a reason or purpose. That is the insecurity and/or ego of humans......"I must be important"......"There must be a reason why I'm here". Yup.....the reason is, basically speaking, because a chemical reaction happened. We are nothing, we are born, we live, we die, we are nothing. That's all. Why do people have to try to create "more" than that?

You forgot the notion of the beautiful accident of creation - and that life in earth are very rare configurations of atoms... possibly 😄

I believe in reincarnation and I think the soul is infinite like life and the universe and we will see everything in every life and we got infinite time to colonize other places in our galaxy then in the universe and so on and on

Han Goku. And you’re right - at least if it’s true that the amount of energy in the universe is a constant. Then we truely do live forever (just as different atomic configurations)
