When you are shopping for a dishwasher, what would be the features that would be most important to you? We were focused on price mostly, but even at that we still ended up getting a lot of great function! One thing I insisted upon was the control panel on the FRONT of the door instead of on the top. I've never liked the controls hidden. Actually, I think it would be harder to keep clean as well.

All those mentioned before are good must haves but I missed my dishes dried at the end of each cicle. With my old dishwasher all I had to do was putting my dry dishes away. Now I have one more chore, that is to dry them up time every time I have a load. If I have to use that extra fun, how is that energy efficient. 😥

Great review! When we built our house about 7 years ago we got all LG appliances and for the most part we've been happy. The big complaints we have were the quality of the fridge (died after 6 years) and the dishwasher (loud, spring replacements 3x)
@JoesPhenomenal

Yeah... the direct drive thing is probably supposed to be their fix for that... Refrigerators have been a big problem it seems lately... especially the ones with the icemaker in the fridge area instead on down in the freezer.... Our Samsung is atrocious with that.

Great balanced review. I will point out that the owners manual had suggested layouts for loading the upper rack. It's not the traditional system found in many other washers, which may explain some of the frustration. The layout works really well, especially with Corningware/Corelle bowls. With the 3rd rack, we can easily fit a twice what we got in our Whirlpool, and not compromise cleaning. I wanted to point this out since it was actually a plus for me. Also love how quiet it is. Only complaint is that it can cause an odor from the drain if not cleaned regularly. The kitchen sink smelled really bad until I pinpointed it coming from the dishwasher drain. Now making sure to run a clean cycle as recommended.

Thanks! Hmm... I never had an issue with the smell... Could it have something to do with the drain routing possibly?

My Maytag from 2014 has a tiered upper rack. I hate it but live with it. It's such a pain to have one side low and the other side high... Watching the uploader mess around with loading I was imagining how I would load stuff I have in it... It seems so weird to have that big center gap in the middle bottom rack on this one... but I'm thinking I could work with that... I think it would just be getting used to different configurations that you're used to...

We just installed this unit. Our only caution is when you push the new one in, be sure to do it in about 2” increments while also pulling the drain hose, etc. into the adjoining cabinet. We didn’t and we pinched the drain hose to where I had to purchase a replacement hose. They will kink easily behind the washer and I believe that is why the drain hose has an outer hose to protect it. We’re running it empty now to make sure everything is OK. Our old one was an LG that ran for 12 years, so that’s why we bought this IG to replace it.

Great minds must think alike. I just bought an LG LDP6810. A big difference is that the controls are on the top of the door. The way my countertop is made, the trim covers the control lights. On these you can open the door and program your wash and when closed the cycle starts. When you use it, once started do you even "need" to look at the time or the controls? In the old, once we started the cycle just walked away.

I agree! I have that dishwasher ( minus the upper rack) and the tines are terrible. The ones on the bottom that fold down will no longer stay up and hold the dishes. Since they are the only place for plates or bowls I had to zip tie them to stay up, but they are wobbly. It washes well though so I try not to complain.

I'm getting this dishwasher installed this week & am anxious to use it. I wanted a Bosch which is what my sister has & loves. However, Home Depot could not get it in until Nov. so I went with this LG model. I would like to see water sprayers in the back of the dishwasher like my Mom's Kenmore but there are none on the market which have that feature. Maybe that is exclusive to Kenmore. ? We no longer have our Sears appliance store here or that would have been what I would have chosen.
@JoesPhenomenal
@JoesPhenomenal 2 жыл бұрын
HI, Paula! Funny you mention Bosch. That was my first choice, too. We needed something quickly though, as out existing one was dead, and doing KZbin cooking videos was getting irritating having to hand wash a billion dishes every day. haha. The LG was our second choice and we found it locally in-stock. It's been a solid machine so far for us, and we run it twice a day. I would recommend using the "Extra Dry" feature though. If that's not on, we sometimes have a few wet dishes.

I have learned something due to a failure in my dishwasher (which is a Maytag).. My rinse aid dispenser started leaking which caused me to STOP using rinse aid...My solution I found actually works BETTER...I bought a small clip fan that I keep in the kitchen and when the dishwasher is done... I open it.. give racks a shake... put the clip fan directing air inside the dishwasher...go back to do other stuff and about an hour later dishes are pretty bone dry..... turn clip fan off, clip it back where I keep it.. unload dishwasher...I've gotten so used to doing this that the next dishwasher I get.. .I'm not going to use rinse aid or the dry cycle at all.... Hi Joe thanks for the demo. I have had my LG tdishwasher for two years and love it. My question is that my dishes are done in the evening and when it says end I open the door partway and put a dish towel over the door while it’s open. In the morning when I go to put the dishes away it is emitting heat. Any time I open it it still is quite warm. I use the turbo express cycle so to save energy using on 59 minutes. It usually does a great job. I’m just concerned about the warmth coming from it when it is not being used. Any suggestions?
@JoesPhenomenal
@JoesPhenomenal Жыл бұрын
That heat comes from the humidity inside the machine. I was noticing that too.... It's stays surprisingly warm in there. It's not on or anything. Nothing to worry about. I Spray with disinfectant once in a while in there if I don't plan to use it for awhile, so no bacteria forms due to that....but I use it twice a day anyways, so the point is probably moot.... We just sold that house though, and I had to leave it behind. Missing it already.

Hello just got this unit but it seems to be missing the stemware accessory to load wine glasses. Would this LG part work MGR62482202? I don’t see how to load wine glasses safely without something like this. Otherwise very pleased with the unit. It is noisier than my previous Bosch unit mostly because water intake is in front behind the kickplate so no acoustic insolation in that spot. The Bosch had the in take in the back which ends up deep in the kitchen cabinet.
@JoesPhenomenal
@JoesPhenomenal Жыл бұрын
I agree! Although for me the noise is still really acceptable... It replaced a pretty crappy washer though. The wine glass thing is annoying. I couldn't see how that was overlooked, since it's just a basic thing these days. The stemware basket should have been zip tied inside the lower drawer... If it wasn't, I bet you can call LG and they'll send ya one. You have to ask them about that other part number though. Conversely, if you have the 3 tray version. That top skinny tray is designed to hold stemware. For me it even does a better job on them than the basket.

I need to buy a new dishwasher and I think I'm going to go with one of the LG ones. A runner up from reviews I'm seeing is a Bosch one. I know it's early to tell but how do you think LG is in terms of reliability. A lot of appliances now are made with those big fancy electronic panels which are prone to fail and associated with big repair costs.
@JoesPhenomenal

Hi! Thanks for stopping by. This LG dishwasher has been really solid for us over here so far and since we run a cooking channel, it ends up getting loaded with a lot of really dirty stuff and we run it twice a day. SO far it was worked really great and it's really quiet as well. We haven't had any reliability issues at all with it so far, but LG in general (like samsung) has had their share of customer service issues. Bosch definitely has a better reputation as far as that's concerned. It's not really fair for me to say that, though since our experience has been good so far, but if you just go with manufacturer history, LG can be a bit of a roll of the dice. As far as the electronics, unfortunately it's the way everything is headed more cool features definitely does mean more potential problems... There's a lot on this LG that to me is really not necessary.. I only use 2 buttons on it anyway. lol

@@JoesPhenomenal Thanks. I was thinking something like model LDFN3432T. Not too expensive and seems pretty good. I don't need fancy features and don't care if the tub is a little wet afterwards, I just crack it open and let it air dry. One thing I'm reading though is that with the front facing touch sensitive buttons is that they are accidentally easily pressed just from walking by. But reviews are mostly good, and usually people post reviews when they are not happy.
@JoesPhenomenal
@JoesPhenomenal 2 жыл бұрын
That model seems about the same as ours with a couple less features (which are mostly unused anyway). I've done the thing where I brush against the front and pause washes before, but it dings at me so I k Ow what happened and just continue the wash.. No biggie, but it really is a hood argument for top mounted controls. That extra drying buttons does wonders for the wet plates.

Glad I could help you out. Remember, reviews are pretty largely based on perceptions of the reviewer. There might be something I think is no big deal, but someone else hates with all their heart.... Our criteria was to get the 3rd tray at the top and for it to not be too terribly loud... also at a decent price and in a black stainless finish. With all the stuff there were really 2 that we were looking closely at. This one and the Samsung. Samsung freaked us out a little since we have a Samsung Fridge and have always had icemaker problems with it. Beenn happy witht the LG for sure... Easy to set up and install, looks nice, it's quiet, and the dishes are clean.. Guess that's all ya need... As far ass reliability goes, we'll see, but it does have direct drive, so there's less parts to go weird on us. Thanks on the Shoes! Those are my Walmart Slippers. We read about every dishwasher we could get in our area right now and after getting and returning two defective KitchenAids back to back (one had a massive bend of the stainless steel from the door and the second was so loud it was clocking 74 dbs despite listed at 42) The GEs had either handles or gimmicky features and the Samsung everyone we talked to said steer clear of as they aren’t able to get parts or customer service if things break currently. Our LG fridge has had a lot of repairs and is loud, but they repaired everything under warranty so there is that. And the slippers are totally hilarious. It shows you have a great sense of humor. Heya, Valerie. I run mine with liquid rinse in the compartment built in the door. I pretty much always run my dishwasher on the NORMAL setting on the left and the EXTRA DRY setting on the right... If I am going to run the dishwasher over night when we go to sleep, I use the NIGHT DRY setting on the right. I believe that ends on running the fan every so often a little extra. I believe that the LG dishwashers don't use a heater inside for drying, but instead rely on residual heat from the washing cycle to keep it warm, and the fan to help dry off.. I didn't think I was gonna like that, but it truned out to work pretty good as far as I've seen.

Replacing our current dishwasher with this LG. It will be our 3rd dishwasher. Our 1st 2 were GEs. Our last one was GLD2800V00WW & it was a piece of crap. Noisy. Didn't dry thoroughly even with heated dry. Plastics were still dirty. Factor in the two trays had become rusty due to nicks from sharp tools. Both trays! The heavy duty wash was a joke. The noise was such that it sounded as though it was walking across our kitchen. The silverware tray was so cheap that the small spaces quickly broke out so that spoons, etc., fell through. Annoying. Looking forward to using a far better dishwasher. Will post once we use it. For now: anything else but a GE.

Unfortunately the plastics not getting dry is an issue these days since they started relying more on residual hot air drying the dishes, and not so much with electric heating elements (some sort of energy efficiency thing). Since plastics don't retain the heat, they end up staying a bit wet. With the LG, I just set it for extra drying so it runs the fans for a long time and will usually dry up most of it.... Still a pain though.

Since it doesn't have an actual heated drying feature, that door does stay a little wet sometimes. It dries with residual heat and a fan. Works a lot better than I expected it to though. Also it depends on what's in there. Plastics don't retian heat well, so Tupperware tends to stay a little wet.

I just bought this dishwasher and In tripping to figure it out. So far what frustrates me about it is that it won't dry. There is a lot of water remaining all over the dishwasher. My old one had a heater coil that tried my dishes and all I had to do was put the dishes away. What am I missing with this new one?
@JoesPhenomenal
@JoesPhenomenal Жыл бұрын
A lot of the newer dishwashers are supposed to be super "energy efficient". That means, that instead of having a heater coil in there to dry the dishes, they rely on residual heat from the wash. That ends up leaving dishes a little wet a lot of time since there isn't active heating. They way I got around that is I always use the EXTRA DRYING option on my washes. That ends up running a fan inside the machine as well. As a result, I usually get dry dishes unless I have something in there with a big ridge that the water pools on or something like that.
@fifty6648
@fifty6648 Жыл бұрын
I'm having the same problem! It's almost like there is no drying action at all. Tried every cycle and option attempting to get dry dishes. I like this washer but I'm very unhappy having to manually dry my dishes to put away. I thought energy efficient meant better technology and hardware, not missing basic functions. Before you buy this washer just know that you're probably going to have to dry your dishes by hand.
@JoesPhenomenal
@JoesPhenomenal Жыл бұрын
The best way to get the machine to dry would be to turn on the "extra drying" function. It doesn't have a real drying function like other dishwasher with a heated drying element. Instead they went with using the residual heat from the rinse cycle to dry the dishes. If you us the extra dry function, it will run a fan on them as well for several hours. That works pretty good for me, but if you have plastic stuff in there, they tend not to dry completely since the plastics don't retain heat well. I would have preferred a real dryer though.

You have to turn on the "extra drying" feature. That will run the fans for a few hours after the cycle finishes, and that can take care of a lot of the water as long as it isn't pooled up on stuff. Most washers don't use heated drying anymore due to wanting to be more energy efficient, so the wet dish thing has become pretty common.

two things worth mentioning. The silverware drawer is ridiculously tedious to use. Putting every piece of silverware in sideways so they fit between these little pins it's just frustrating as can be. Really irritating. The dish racks, as was stated in the video, are really inappropriate for holding regular types of dishes as found in any normal kitchen. As was mentioned in the video, putting in bowls and pots and glasses is really frustrating. You have to spend all this time trying to find an orientation for them to fit on the racks. Should also be mentioned, that on my version, the primary rack falls off the main tracks all the time. The unit seems to work well and cleaning dishes, but the racks are terrible. I would not have bought this knowing these things now. The unit is very quiet though.

Looks like not all dishwashers need salt especially ones built in the US. If your dishwasher doesn’t have a container to add salt inside the main tub at the bottom, don’t use salt. The detergent and rinse aid is all you need. Don’t add salt with the detergent in the soap dispenser. Only dishwashers with built in softeners should use salt otherwise it can damage the unit. If it doesn't have that resovoir, then it wouldn't even have the softener in it either. This was a really interesting one, because I wasn't even aware that there was a such thing. Never seen one before. In any case, if you have soft water to your house, it wouldn't be needed anyway, even if it had the compartment.

To make it clean properly. You need to take out filter after EACH use to get it clean! Filter located on the bottom of the floor and clean with soap and brush. Before putting filter in the hole. Add vinegar 1/4 cup or 1/4 cup baking soda or citric acid 2 tablespoon in the hole. By doing so, you’ll be happy with machine! I do advise to rinse dishes from any food scraps before putting in the dishwasher to wash.

I doesn't use an active electric heater to dry like older dishwashers due to "being energy efficient". It relies on the heat inside the unit from the wash cycle to handle it. However, if you turn on the extra drying feature, it runs a fan in the machine after the cycle finishes and that does a pretty good job getting everything dry except for plastic tupperware... probably because that stuf doesn't retain the heat well.. No complaints here, though.

Hey.. I hear ya... Unfortunately, the days of your normal fixit guy being able to work on a lot of stuff is slowing going away with all the newer stuff. Everything is computer controlled, anymore. Remember when we used to be able to work on our own cars? Not so much, now. I can't really speak to the breakdown on the buttons too much, since we haven't had a problem with it yet (knock on wood), but I'm pretty sure all the dishwashers have kind of moved in that direction. I think the last bastion of manual control might be the lower end gas ranges with the knobs and analog thermometers (I might be missing something on that though). Yeah... that phone app thing on this is more gimicky than anything else. Other than maybe sending a notification or somethin when the dishes are done, I don't get why you would even want that, but that might just be us. On a better note, mine is really easy to use,a nd for the most part I only use 2 buttons... Power and Start.... lol. Seems to work fine that way.

@JoesPhenomenal
@JoesPhenomenal Жыл бұрын
Heya Rita. Yeah... That was a miss on my part so I apologize for that. I can tell you why it happens though. And yeah.. It can be annoying. The new LG dishwashers (and I think this is something that a lot of brands are moving towards) are pushing higher energy efficiently. Back before, to dry the dishes, after your clean cycle finished, you would have an electric dryer come on that would basically bake your dishes dry. That was really effective, but would be hard on certain kinds of plastics and other things over time, and the only water pooled up would be if there was a lot of on something with a big ledge. With the new dishwashers (this one, anyway) the drying cycle is no longer active like that. Instead, the machine runs a hot water cycle rinse and relies on the residual heat inside the diswasher to finish drying the dishes. That can work, but it's not good on pooled water, and plastics don't retain heat well so they tend to stay a little wet since they cool down too fast. To counteract that, the "extra drying" feature adds the internal fan into the mix to give it kind of a blow drying effect. I just leave that turned on all time on all my cycles and it usually manages to get everything dry for me unless something gets turned upside down during my washes. That does make the full cycle take a little longer though.

After watching videos trying to figure out how to work this thing without enrolling in a rocket science college course, I have found 90% BAD reviews and most people are really struggling to figure these super complicated controls out. I would definitely recommend NOT buying one of these. As Elon Musk would say, "THIS IS A DUMB DESIGN." WAY, WAY, WAY OVER COMPLICATED FOR A DISHWASHER. I AM FEELING RIPPED OFF. 1/2" thick manual! WOW. I just bought it today and they want $5.00 to answer my question of how to turn drying off.

After spending hours watching tutorial videos trying to figure out how to operate this dishwasher, I've come to the conclusion that it's overly complicated and poorly designed. Nearly all the reviews I've found echo the same sentiment-this thing is a nightmare to use. First off, the control panel might as well require a degree in rocket science to decipher. Elon Musk would probably call it a "dumb design," and I couldn't agree more. Who needs a half-inch thick manual just to figure out how to turn off the drying cycle? To add insult to injury, they want to charge me $5.00 just to answer a basic question about the settings. And don't get me started on the layout of the buttons-they're so awkwardly placed that I have to open the dishwasher door just to see or press them. Why not have buttons on the front like a normal dishwasher? You know, with clear labels for Normal, Heavy, Delicate, High Temp, No Heat Dry, Start, and Cancel? And please, no dual-purpose buttons that work only when you release them! And speaking of confusing, what's the deal with the Auto cycle? It shows the same time frame for both half load and full load. Does the left arrow mean wash the top load and the right arrow the bottom load? It's baffling! Is it too much to ask for intuitive controls that actually make sense? To make matters worse, pressing start often results in no countdown and no action. Is there a reset button somewhere hidden in that dense manual, or is this thing just defective? Oh, and about those annoying chimes and sounds-it's impossible to turn them off, despite following the manual's instructions. And what happens if there's a power outage while the dishwasher is running? How on earth do you resume the cycle once the power's back? And here's the kicker-the app that took over 2 hours to get working is completely useless because the dishwasher powers off when not in use, which also turns off the WiFi. So much for starting it remotely! You have to manually go to the dishwasher to start it anyway. And why are they not 5G? Guess they are saving a buck by using outdated tech. And let's not forget-I can't even figure out how to set the darn clock. It's not in the manual! I honestly wish I had my old dishwasher back. Save yourself the headache and avoid LG dishwashers like the plague. It's a disaster waiting to happen and not worth the frustration.
@JoesPhenomenal

I didn't have too many issues with mine, but there's a lot of features in there I just skipped also. If Elon made it, I think it would have robot arms on it that just put your dishes away for ya too. In order to get stuff to dry properly, I always just left the "extra drying" option turned on, and it ran fans to help out. The heated drying on that thing just uses residual heat from the last heated rinse cycle to dry the dishes, and I didn't feel like that did enough and left dishes wet. There isn't a heating coil to do the drying on these. Some kind of energy saving thing.

@@JoesPhenomenal On most dishwashers you can open the door after the wash and dishes dry quickly from heat evaporation. On this one you have no idea when wash cycle is complete. I don't know why they turn off the selection lights it's easy to accidentally press another button when rushing to slam the door shut in 4 seconds. Then with the lights out your not sure what cycle is running. So open the door back up. press power and press power again and start over.
