The main thing about the original was that it was showing off 3D technology at a time when that wasn't a thing. Something of this scale was revolutionary, so it even feels different from its sequel just a year later. I agree there can be a 'creepiness' to Tomb Raider, and I think that's due to the isolation and atmosphere. The 'vibes' if you will, and one of the reasons fans cherish the originals so much. That's what is underrated to me, as we get more and more used to modern assists to help us figure everything out. Anniversary's ability to mix in some of Legend's mechanics while preserving the original's design decisions is nicely balanced, without losing too much. It doesn't get talked about with other great remakes, but it deserves some love. (And, It's coolest feature is developer commentary while you play. Felt ahead of its time)

Gosh I love this game, I went out of my way to get the collectors edition on the PS2 back in the day, The directors commentary was a genius move, collecting those crystals and hearing the directors thoughts, why have other games NOT done this? Still a highly enjoyable game, really hope we get a modern console version so I can play it on my PS4/ps5 and definitely my Switch, your a legend mate for covering this, great to see it gets some love

I was a kid that STRUGGLED to get through TR games because of the difficulty... Anniversary was the very first TR game I actually completed and allowed me to experience TR1's story in full. 🥰

Anniversary is my favorite Tomb Raider game and one of my favorite games in general. Recently played through it again on PC and finally managed to complete all of the time trials and had a blast. The soundtrack is amazing. The Croft Manor theme is especially good. Could listen to it on repeat for hours.

@@joethealternativegamer3935so it takes everything we love about Lara Croft and the tomb raider franchise and modernizes it for today’s audience Lara is still superhero like but she’s a full fleshed out character now who has a wide range of emotions that are present throughout the game The puzzles being semi difficult and engaging, the addition of the unique grappling hook, the acrobatics, the full use of Croft manor to test the kinda of raider you are The story is definitely a TOMB RAIDER story and doesn’t sacrifice anything (making Lara to cold like classic or to emotional like survivor Her design is still the iconic look everyone knows her for, the dual pistols present The length is perfect not to short like legend was but not stupidly long like TR4 is. It’s literally just PERFECT. 💙

I played and finished it back in the day, some puzzles are challenging and the pacing is decent. Its a good retelling of the classic TR.Ill always prefer the classics by Core Design because those games do in fact have something special about them that was never duplicated by any other game of the genre.

Although there are some missing elements from the OG games like the human enemies, I prefer this over the last two Crystal Dynamic reboot trilogy ganes any day. Lara still feels like OG Lara in this game.

That's my faiforite TR game and probably the last truly entertaining TR game. And why Larson's death scene hits harder than the whole Survivor trilogy goddamit? The only thing I don't like is Natla became more chiche nut villian.

Natla just created monsters to prevent next Atlantis collapse, "territorical rages" was just part of the process. She says that directly to Larra in 1996 game with some sadness in voice acting, while in Legend trilogy she wants destroy the world because ... no idea what 7th age supposed to be. Maybe I've missed something, but Lengend Natla for me is typical 2000's movie villian.

OMG YESS! That’s what I’m saying! Legend era really is the PERFECT unified version of Lara Croft. It combines what we all love about survivor and classic! That death and emotional scene was EARNED too. That’s why the survivor games and Netflix show they simply overdue it to the point where stuff isn’t sad anymore because their is just to much of the emotional side. Anniversary is so perfect 💙

Best tomb raider experience since 3/4. I think only shadow is better. Underworld had great moments but lots of recycling snd unfinished levels so yep… this Anniversary is the best TR in the 2000s.

I like Legend a bit better but Anniversary is a great game. 7:32 Did you play the Steam version? The Steam version is known for having some issues that the PS, Xbox and PC on disc versions didn't have.

Tomb Raider Anniversary is so good. It took all the mechanics and gameplay from Legend that were refreshing and enhanced them, as well as making all movements and graphics better. Even just having more difficult or complex puzzles, like the original game, really added to the experience for me. Legend is great fun and really accessible but Anniversary was for the true modern Tomb Raider fans.

Anniversary is a good game with an excellent sound design... (Especially the creepy Egypt voices) It's simply the best in the LAU trilogy, I think. I only wish the controls weren't so imprecise and unpredictable/overly sensitive analog stick syndrome comparing to classic Lara, causing many cheap accidental deaths. LASTLY, for god's sake if there is ever a remaster, PLEASE LET ME SAVE ANYTIME ANYWHERE just like I could in TR1-6!!!! (Except PlayStation's crystal system that sucked equally if not more than LAU checkpoints comparing to the PC ports) There's nothing I hate more than having to replay an entire section of a game just to get to the part I suck at. Sure checkpoints are useful for those who forget to save, but manual saving should make a comeback for those who don't want to replay 20 minutes of lost progress every time they fail (Which happens A LOT in LAU). Checkpoints are a nice quality of life addition, but they shouldn't be a forced "only option".

I hated Legends mostly due to Lara's annoying friends chatting to her all the time, and it was completely dumb down; sorry, but Anniversary was brilliant it was a game that remember what Tomb Raider is all about.

Classic also had no white markings telling you where to go. You get to die, a lot. I wasn't a fan of the quick time events. In the first game you had to be nimble and/or find vantage points, until you have pumped enough lead into whatever it is, including the T Rex.
