This is the most comprehensive, organised, detailed and illustrated tutorial on the multiple points of friction and resistance in typebar typewriters. Thank you! Daniel

Mind boggling. Hat is off to you. Makes me even sorrier that my local repairman seems to have retired and got into hiding. Thanks for your dazzling display of expertise!

Home run Joe!! That's all the places I inspect and "tune up" on these machines to get as easy of a type feel as possible. So much work went into this video. Thanks so very much for all your time and efforts. So helpful for a continued typewewriter education 👍

Hi Joe Wow wee, Bravo 👏, I see what you mean on that one wiping you out, Good Grief as Charlie Brown used to say! This was a lot of work my friend, I hope you do one of these for the Hermés 3000, (harsh whisper: Curve version) One of the really neat things is the SCM 50's, 60's, and 70's Typewriters are, guts wise all the same, so you covered over 100 machines easily! 50's 5 Series, I wonder if that what that means.... 🤔 Hmmmm.... I'm sure you were speaking to all of us, but it really hit home for me, I heard and felt you talking to me. Today was a bit of a better day, things are looking better, just been a tough month health wise. Still recovering, but today May 29th was a pretty good day, considering I've been stuck in my room since May 4th. One day and step at a time. I feel Friday will be the day I make it downstairs! Beautiful 5 series by the way Joe!

How does the force required on your Silent Super compare to your 1950s Hermes Rocket? I get that they’re two different classes of typewriters but my Rocket seems to require slightly more force than the Silent Super does at medium typing setting. Can’t tell if that’s typical of the Rocket or not!

I think this is true of most small portables m they require more force than a larger machine (assuming we’re comparing machines that are properly serviced and working.)

Does the adjustment of the touch control change the key force required? That's an actual debate? You can feel it and you can flip the machine over and see how and when the spring engages. As the man says "CLEAN YOUR TYPEWRITER" and pray you never run into one that's been 'formed' and bent six way to Sunday to fix a non existent problem. See Duane on "I've worked on these for 40 years and never had to adjust that..." until he ran into one with missing and loose parts. Check the felt (cork on a 6), because that sets the rest or start position of everything. Not usually a problem on a 5, but on a 6 if you have uneven keys, address the cork first thing or else.
