Well for once I'm fucking stunned... Kinda at a loss for words on this one haha. One of my absolute favorite knives, and I had absolutely no idea it would perform that terribly. For starters, the shit tang is shocking as hell. I'm guessing since the micrata is filling the voids, the heft felt as if it was a full tang knife. But no, once again people putting gigantic holes in their tangs. Disgusting. But Holy Jesus, I did not expect blowouts that quickly. I know Elmax is some tough stuff, and the TRC has quite a good Rockwell on it too. But damn that was quick. At the brick or iron rod, totally expected it. But at the car?? Damn that hurt my soul. Once again we gotta thank JoeX for providing illumination to the situation... This one I'm guilty myself of being a fanboy. I'm taking a huge L on this round lol. Well done brother, you went above and beyond for this video! Excellent work and I'm still shocked how this went down. Thanks again brother! 🙏

Yesterday I went to the nearby swamp to acclimatize with the smell and humidity for the upcoming destructtest, I caught a few mosquitoes in a glass jar. I'll put the jar on my pole and follow those 50 minutes eagerly. I'm of the opinion that if you watch hockey, you have to be a hockey player, the same for other sports. I break blades, dive at the mouth of the river, drive like a maniac through the forest and cut down trees. Far worse blade toughness then I would have expected I have to admit. What is the HRC rating? Perhaps it's on the high side so better for edge retention vs toughness? Another super steel not living up to hard (if not silly unrealistic...) use when others performed far better at least. Elmax, which often HT to a high HRC, not a good choice for a survival knife.

The simple fact is this knife is overpriced collectors gear not a real survival knife.

Elmax is not a good choice for toughness. Practically speaking, the batonning work you did with it shows it will hold up well in that, more important, job. I don't think you will be chopping up too many cars in the apocalypse. I'd like to see how the Fallkniven A1X compares in similar tests -- it's a similar knife in many respects.

If we just wanted ultimate toughness we'd simply be buying pieces of round stock that's not even heat treated but obviously that would make for a lousy knife which brings me back to my original point : it doesn't matter if other cheaper knives were tougher, the better question(s) is "Is that level of abuse ever seen in normal knife usage and thus is that toughness needed?" Oftentimes increased toughness is a trade-off for other desirable knife traits like edge holding and stainlessness and there are others as well depending on your intended uses. My main point being, yes, there are other cheaper knives which are tougher (say ones using 420hc), but do they perform better overall as a knife than this one? Likely not. Again, that level of toughness those cheaper knives have may not matter as you'd typically not be surpassing the toughness levels even this knife has. Obviously, what Joe is doing here is not typical usage!

@@joex I don't think a lot of these "super steels" belong in a blade over 4inches. Love them in folders or little fixed blades. Carbon steel for anything I'm going to chop with!

Thanks Joe you bring it hard with no apologies. Super steel is fine for somethings but a survival knife no thanks I need a blade that will not chip out dulling is fine. I can sharpen a dull knife but not a broken knife. 1084 1055 or 154cm are great steels tough enough for what is required and will get the job done.

Buy it. This knife is really tough…………..as long as you dont blow it up with a hand grenade, or hand it over to this fantastic man. I use one of mine daily to baton wood, and i never had it chip, even though i took the edge down to 15 degrees. This is a beautiful beater. Love this Channel, but some knives perform good when killing cars, and others shine when exposed to more realistic tasks.

I looked it up and in USD it’s $557!! I paid way less than that for the Tom Brown Tracker knife and it did WAY better than the Apocalypse knife. 😂😂. But holy SHIT! It sure was sharp!! You almost lost your finger tip 😂😂. Another Awesome entertaining video 🙌🏼👍🏼👍🏼
