When I was in my 20's I taught myself how to DJ with vinyl and turntables. I worked hard and practiced like crazy and I was playing in clubs and at various raves. This is when you actually had to match beats perfectly and needed some talent. Now a days these kids have laptops and auto sync and jump around and shit like loons. They're all posers

I used to sit in the DJ booth in the 90s with some famous DJs and they could spin. Blew me away. As a musician I knew these guys learned a craft and were good at it. The turntables were their instrument and some mastered it like EVH did the guitar.

Funny thing is... The real talent here is the production crew. They are the ones who set up the gear and get the system sounding right. Also, the lighting technician who sets the visuals is a key part of the show. The "DJ" is just the face of the whole thing.

Worked in a night club, can confirm every DJ just plays a premade playlist and spends the whole night awkwardly pretending to flip switches and scratch fake records, which clearly has no effect on the song playing for obvious reasons

I am a DJ from the 80's turntable era, I never forwarded myself to the CDJ player. I sold my Technic 1200s back in the 90s but I just bought 2 new 1200Mk7s because I still have some of my old vinyl. You are right these so called "new DJs" have it too easy, the hardware/software plus a computer do all of the beat matching and blending tasks and removes the skill needed to do it. It is like the automatic vs. the manual transmission debate that driving a manual puts you in full control and requires skill.
