With Chance the Rapper, Vince Staples, Logic, A$AP Rocky, Daye Jack, Isaiah Rashad, Gambino, Vic Mensa, Raury, Joey Bada$$, and many many more talented new artists, the future of hip hop looks pretty damn promising. Not to mention you've got the leaders of the new generation like Drake, J Cole, Kendrick, Wale, Meek, really coming into their own and performing at a very high level. In my opinion, we are witnessing the New Golden Era of hip hop

He has such a beautiful spirit and you can tell that he is passionate about what he believes and I can honestly say that I support his mission 100%. It can be so hard to stay grounded in that industry, I just hope he isn't another one of those artists that we have to watch give up in front of our eyes

It seems like more people are turning their backs on Joey because they feel he has "regressed" since 1999. It's like the public is ripping him for progressing into a different direction. Different does not mean bad. This strangely reminds me of a correlation of Batman and Gotham to Joey and Hip Hop. Gotham will paint him as a villain when Batman is the medicine it needs to get better. "He's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight." - Lt. James Gordon

@LeBeautifulMess10 жыл бұрын
AbstractRule It's completely disheartening. Rappers who actually have something of value to contribute to the industry continue to be swept under the rug because society perpetuates this idea of creating negative stereotypes and brainwashes the youth to continue to seek the same things. There is no balance. If society forced good rap (the medicine) on us like they continuously force garbage down our throats we would no longer want the garbage. Have you listened to a song you originally hated and it grew on you because it was forced upon you by radio stations and society so much so that you find yourself singing this subpar song even though you don't want to? That's true brainwashing.

I don't usually like mentioning TBC in Hot 97 comments, but one thing I HAVE to give Hot 97 credit for is giving artists like Joey exposure, early. Like this isn't the first time he's been on here; he's been on here for a while (and they play his music...late at night...but they play it). Although I watch TBC JUST AS OFTEN as this channel, I can't expect to see someone like Joey on there until he's bigger. And the convo they just have is something I usually come here for. I like the balance between the channels, though.

In the fourth or fifth grade Nelson called me. Out of ignorance I promoted a local radio station that played the watered down and prompted negative behavior. I'm 19. I grew up not knowing hip-hop beside what I heard on the radio. Joey and his ideal 1990's sound brought me to the doing research and finding the golden era age. I can relate to Joey's epiphany. Going back to what was once played I now understand what was going on.

Still gonna go cop that B4DA$$ Tho, just wished these artists that's doing something way more original, gets more shine than artists that follow the same template that already has been proven before. I remember hearing "Waves "for the first time... I thought to my self. ... yep, the Nas of thus generation. .. with guys like J Cole, Kendrick, Drake, Logic ,Gambino Joey .... we may be moving towards another "Golden Era "for hip-hop. .. In fact, I would like to see all these guys on one record. .. that would fuck the game up sure...Someone needs to tlet Ye, Em amd Jay.that If thier looking for "the throne". .. it's obviously in one of these guys possesion...... depending on you ask... it's obvious that there's deffinetly a major shift happening within the culture...

***** i just feel like there's a huge drop off from "1999" to "Summer Knight". i didnt like his buckshot-esque delivery, it felt forced and too aggressive to where i felt it didnt sound right. IMO i feel he's best when his flow is calm and smooth like on most of the stuff on the Pro Era tape following "1999". But I can say the joints he put out from the album sound good so far...I'll probably give a spin when i get a chance
@thankyoubasedgod9310 жыл бұрын
ehaze you gotta realize that he finished puberty by time Summer Knights rolled around; Joey has touched on this before. His voice got deeper and more raspy by nature which is why Summer Knights sounds alot different from 1999. Personally I think Summer Knights is the better tape.

I actually think he was talking about a song off his new album called like Boom Bap or something and it featured premo. I heard it right after I saw this interview but I'm pretty sure that's the one he was taking about. I'm still surprised though cause I thought that was a very well lyrically crafted song and I've seen most people like it. Idk what Ebro's on man. :/

I'm actually gonna purchase this album. His music everything a hip hop head could ask for from an east coast rapper in second decade of the new millennium.

As far as what gets played on the radio... I think that people only gravitate towards the garbage music because it gets played over & over so it gets to a point where you have no choice, but to like it. I'm sure when people first hear these songs they initially dislike the songs & recognize it's garbage, but after it's played over & over again you start to like it. It's mind control. I listen to all types of music, even some of the garbage... but I make sure I monitor it. That's why I can't listen to the radio.

Joey spoke real truth about the radio. Just like Kendrick and Cole; Joey is real hip hop

Damn man, Joey has a great awareness of life. Most of us go through life without consciously absorbing and analysing our experiences. This dude is doing that at an early age.
