They are both great actors here, Joey telling the story with emotions and Ross telling it without emotions. It is hard to say which one of them did the better job. Here 2:25 you can actually see the fear of Ross, being scared about how she was going to react to the story...

"Years ago, when I was backpacking across Western Europe, I was just outside Barcelona, hiking in the foothills of mount Tibidabo. I was at the end of this path, and I came to a clearing, and there was a lake, very secluded, and there were tall trees all around. It was dead silent. Gorgeous. And across the lake I saw, a beautiful woman, bathing herself. but she was crying... I hesitated, watching, struck by her beauty. And also by how her presence; the delicate curve of her back, the dark sweep of her hair, the graceful length of her limbs, even her tears, added to the majesty of my surroundings. I felt my own tears burning behind my eyes, not in sympathy, but in appreciation of such a perfect moment. She spied me before I could compose myself. But she didn't cry out. Instead our eyes held and she smiled, enigmatically, fresh tears still spilling down her cheeks. I was frozen. I knew nothing about this woman, and yet, as we stood on opposite sides of a pool of water, thousands of miles from my own home and everyone I had ever known, I felt the most intense connection. Not just to her, but to the earth, the sky, the water between us. And also to the entirety of mankind. As if she symbolized thousands of years of the human condition. I wanted to go to her, to comfort her, to probe this feeling of belonging I had never encountered before. But I couldn't. Because I knew that if I spoke, if she spoke, that moment would be ruined. And I knew I would need the memory of that moment to carry me through the inevitable dark patches throughout my life. And so I watched her lower her hand, turn, and slowly walk to the shore opposite me. The rest of her perfect form was gradually revealed to me, and I held my breath as I watched her disappear behind a copse of trees near the water. I didn't follow her, in fact I turned around. I knew there was nothing else we could experience together that would be more perfect than that moment...and it still remains the most profound experience of my life"

Damn this is really good, but even though this is mesmerizing, I don’t understand how this short story would cause someone to instantly fall in love unless… that’s the beauty of it, the intense details and delivery of the story is what would cause the other person to be captivated and I guess want to have sex? Lol I’m reading wayyyy to into this but good job at finishing the story you should be a writer

@@kevflore196 What Joey is doing here is *seducing* , he isn't casting a spell that as soon as the incantation is fully recited the panties drop. This is just a very excellent opener that can work across a very wide array of individuals, regardless of their differences as people they are still human and the story captures the imagination of anybody listening to it. Joey is portrayed as very stupid throughout the entire series but if there's any one thing he understands it's the push and pull of the romantic game. He tells this story and he shares it with Ross as being his magic go to because for Joey, the rest of the dance is instinctual, and he can understand it as effortlessly as a fish understands how to swim through water, but imagine a fish having to explain to a human how to swim. It would be a little difficult because it's something that is so effortless to the fish they do it without even understanding how they do it, Ross is a scientist and he isn't as good at romance as Joey is so the finishing component might still be difficult for him but this is still the closest that you could get for a fish to write a manual on how to swim for the hapless humanoid.

This is definitely the best “long-game” episode of the entire show. One other one that’s not the craziest payoff but - when Phoebe’s boyfriend’s junk was always hanging out and no one would tell him directly except when Gunther at the very end of the episode delivers the funniest line of the entire series: “Hey buddy…this is a family place, put the mouse back in the house.”

I love and enjoy them all, but Ross cracks me up EVERY time, and also moves me like no other. Certainly bcs of the comic acting skills and hilarious faces of David Schwimmer, and perhaps also bcs Ross, in his awkwardness along with his tenderness and messy need of love, is t most relatable character and less "weird"and peculiar of them all, to identify with. Although of course, they all have a lovely tenderness and funny humanity to identify with❤

Though all together i prefer - just a little - first half of all seasons, this episode from later ones maybe will come first to my head if asked “what is your favorite one?” The coming back from honeymoon, the famous backpack story, the Joey and Ross’ very “serious”conversation, the oh so well incorporated fake names, Ross’ attempt to save Rachel and his “i am so happy” when he was cleared… and the ending with Ross snd Rachel watching video. Perfect from the beginning to the end!

Years ago, when I was backpacking across Western Europe, I was just outside Barcelona, hiking in the foothills of mount Tibidabo. I was at the end of this path, and I came to a clearing, and there was a lake ,very secluded, and there were tall trees all around. It was dead silent. Gorgeous. And across the lake I saw, a beautiful woman, bathing herself. but she was crying... I froze, not wanting to interrupt her privacy, but my heart ached to see her so distraught. I cautiously approached the edge of the lake, unsure of what to say or do. The water was so clear that I could see every little detail of the lakebed. I took a deep breath and called out to her. She turned to face me, her eyes swollen with tears, her face wet with sorrow. My heart skipped a beat, struck by her beauty and pain all at once. She hesitated, then beckoned me over. As I got closer, I could see that her skin was the color of caramel, and her eyes shone like diamonds. I introduced myself, and she replied in a soft, musical voice, revealing that her name was Isabella. She told me that she had lost the love of her life, a man named Miguel, in a tragic accident, and that she came to this secluded lake to escape the world and to be alone with her thoughts. I could feel the pain and the sorrow in her words, and my heart went out to her. I sat down next to her on the shore, and we watched the sun slowly dip below the horizon. She told me stories of Miguel, of their dreams and aspirations, of their plans for the future. I listened intently, captivated by her words, and wept silently as I felt her pain. As the night fell, she finally fell asleep, exhausted from her crying. I didn't want to disturb her, so I lay there, next to her, watching her chest rise and fall with each breath. The stars shone brightly above us, and the moon illuminated the lake, casting an ethereal glow across the water. In that moment, I realized that life was fleeting, that love was precious, and that we must cherish every moment that we have with those we hold dear. I felt a deep connection with Isabella, a sense of understanding and empathy that transcended language and culture. As the sun rose the next morning, she awoke, and we sat there in silence, watching the lake come alive with the dawn. She looked at me, her eyes filled with gratitude, and gave me a small smile. In that smile, I saw a glimmer of hope, a sign that she was ready to face the world again, to live, to love, and to cherish the memories of Miguel. We parted ways that morning, but the memory of that night stayed with me, a reminder that life was precious, and that even in the darkest of moments, there was hope, there was beauty, and there was love. I carry that memory with me wherever I go, and whenever I feel lost or alone, I remember Isabella, and I find solace in the knowledge that somewhere out there, she is still living, still loving, and still cherishing the love of Miguel, with hope for a brighter future.

Friends always aired on a Thursday and my roommates and I would often go to the bar later that night after watching friends. Anyways, there were two cute girls standing together so I approached them and did my very best impression of Joey Tribiani performing this in dramatic fashion. They both burst out laughing before I was even close to finishing it! The one girl told me that even if she is single forever, no one would ever be able to top that pick up line. I’d bet she heard it for months afterwards, but I would have been the first to say it and got her original reaction to it.

Wait a min.... Joey met Ross wearing the red sweater that evening and later says that he knows some "dude" wearing the sweater who slept with Rachel - and still can't identify that the dude is Ross himself 😑🙄

Is 5/6 months really a lot for most guys…? Unless youre an fboy-no idea why we use “an” instead of “a”/random-5 months just doesnt seem crazy to me for the average non-fboy person who’s single, busy, reserved, struggles meeting people/socializing etc.
