I rode an 84 Iron head for 23 years. Wish I still had it. I like my 99 Softail Custom really well. but I should have kept the Iron head too. My first Harley was 1942 "45" flat head. That was in 1955. Yeah, I am 81 years old.

By far now my favorite video/story on Ironheads, since I own one just like yours, 1970, bought in San Bernadino, hauled to Santa Barbara in my old F250. It has needed a top end for the two years I've owned it, has sat in my gardens, and you've inspired me to keep going on its restoration. Thank you~~ Oh, and my cat's name is Smiley~~

Great bike, cool but modest guy, with respect for his machine, the guy who owned and rode it before him, and the general chopper scene in California, and great shots of San Francisco. It’s really brightened up a foggy December night in north east England.

Every modern motorcycle vlogger would tell you that you're dead, and that therefore your next-of-kin must have posted this video. You're dead because those drum brakes simply will not, and cannot, ever, stop a motorcycle. That such an assertion is demonstrably false does not stop them making it. I've heard many times that such brakes will never stop the bike, although they may slow it down. Of course I grew up using drum brakes exclusively, and could lock up any wheel any time if I so desired, but reality seldom has anything to do with opinion. Nope; if you don't have Brembos, steel braid lines and huge, dual front disks, that bike is NEVER stopping.

I’m convinced in the old iron head now. I bought a first year 1984 Evo motor in an FXR frame. It was crap. I rolled the dice 🎲 and lost that one. I think I’ll try my hand at a 1983 iron head sportster next.

Damn, that bike brings back some great memories. My first Harley was a brand new 75 XLCH. Even though it had that stupid left side shift conversion, I rode the shit out of that bike. I’ve had several Harley’s since then, but my greatest memories where on that Ironhead. Your bike is a true survivor. Ride safe.
