Have you ever considered the concept you see what you are looking for. If you ever bought a car and thought you don't see many of these about untill you own/drive one and you see them more frequently? A familiar concept for most I am sure. When I look in those chickens eyes I see nothing at all just a eye with a very small brain behind it incapable of rational or emotional thoughts. It's only the kind hearted people that would ever look at things the way you do but I have to be honest if you think about it properly then you realise you were applying human values ethics or emotions onto a animal with a tiny tiny brain not capable of any of the thoughts or feelings you applied to them. Yes it would be nicer if we all kept and killed our own meat but it wouldn't be practical or possible for most.

Everyone you saw in this video, even the angry truck driver, believes in their heart that they're opposed to animal abuse. Every single one of them would intervene if they saw someone kicking a dog in the street, or beating a horse with a stick, or stomping on a cat's head. The problem is that there's a disconnect between what they perceive as animal abuse and what they perceive as the natural order. They don't recognise food production as mechanised abuse, especially if they're directly involved in that abuse. The human brain is capable of extraordinary feats of self-deception, so it's no surprise that people like this exist and don't see any contradiction between their belief that animal cruelty is wrong and their support for an industry that has animal cruelty as its primary goal. So while they'll never stop just because we think it's wrong, if something pierces the bubble of cognitive dissonance they live in their own natural compassion will lead them to the logical conclusion that the only moral choice is to stop eating meat. That's why activism and outreach is so important, it might take a long time and a lot of effort before any one individual is willing to examine their complicity in this system, but if they're a rational person they'll eventually come round.

The issue is getting people to understand that they're suffering from cognitive dissonance and getting them to equate the animal abuse they're opposed to with the animal abuse they actively participate in.

The vast majority of people are not the hunters you describe, they're just ordinary people who have never examined their complicity in industrialised animal abuse, who firmly believe they're opposed to animal abuse, and who don't equate the type of animal abuse they would instinctively fight against and the type of animal abuse that takes place on farms and in slaughterhouses around the world. Even the small minority of hunters you're talking about would absolutely step in and defend a dog that was being viciously beaten by a random stranger on the street. Very few of them would see that sort of abuse taking place and not have an instinctual moral reaction to it, and even fewer would actively encourage it. Again, it has absolutely nothing to do with awareness of the abuse, everybody knows and acknowledges that factory farming is abusive and almost every person who engages in one of the debates that Joey films will actively agree with him about it, they'll say things like "oh yeah, factory farms are terrible, I try and buy all my meat from local farmers" and other nonsense like that. The problem is the cognitive dissonance that allows them to simultaneously believe that (a) they are opposed to animal abuse, and (b) the animals they eat do not suffer that abuse. Note that none of this precludes the fact that direct action is a legitimate way to move society forward, and people should be dragged kicking and screaming into a world that recognises the moral repugnance of animal exploitation. Whether people are prepared to make the decision for themselves having been persuaded by the arguments in favour of veganism, or whether they have the decision forced on them by using the legal system to rectify this injustice, the outcome for the animals is the same, and that's the ultimate goal. It's directly akin to slavery; the southern states of the US were willing to go war to defend their "right" to own people, and their disappointment at losing that war was totally irrelevant to the outcome, slavery was still abolished. Perhaps the one area we actually disagree is whether people will eventually come to accept veganism if it's forced on them by the legal process. To go back to the issue of slavery, even today, a hundred years after the civil war, we see millions of southerners proudly flying the flag of a pro-slavery political movement that absolutely and indisputably lost. Human beings are very good at clinging to bad ideas and morally disgusting beliefs through thick and thin, and there's no reason to believe veganism would be any different. They'll fight tooth and nail for the right to abuse animals and poison their own bodies regardless of the reality of the situation, so while I agree we should be fighting to change laws across the globe, I'm certain there'll always be a contingent of people who'll go out of their way to remain ignorant for all eternity.

I worked in a pig slaughterhouse in nova Scotia in like 2007. Everywhere except the kill floor. However I spent my childhood and adolescence hunting and fishing all the time and I also worked on a mink farm, the largest one in North America. Been vegan for almost 8 years now though, never looked back!

It's an insane world. Awful habit, eating the dead bodies of beautiful individuals (just look at those amazing blueish eyes). Ironic that they have CCTV all over the outside of the place, and yet filming inside for welfare purposes is blatantly ignored and disregarded. It's only thanks to animal charities and animal rights activists that we have footage at all of what they're trying so hard to hide from the public. Are there no CCTV cameras in UK slaughterhouses? I believe that there are, that's what I heard anyway. That's waaaaaay better than not having CCTV in there at all, regardless of whether or not it gets published. I really do hope they *DO* have CCTV in these slaughterhouses!!!! 😩 This injustice needs to be recorded onto something material that may be able to be watched in years to come... *Infinitely* more evil if it is not... Imagine having something really bad, traumatic and evil happen to you and having no material evidence to prove it...

Really hit home when you mentioned that the gassing and slaughter of these birds is really their only way out of the life of suffering they’ve been enslaved in. To think a torturous death is their best option, and all because apparently intelligent, compassionate, caring humans are unwilling to take steps to help these birds live lives that aren’t filled with pain. Consumers who don’t care about animal welfare should consider that they’re also paying to exploit the slaughter house workers too. One day I witnessed 20K plus birds die to heat exhaustion aka heart attacks. There where men hanging up the rest of the birds while standing on dead birds. They gas hens because they’re so frail that their legs snap and wings break so easily. When they are on the farm being put into crates they often come in with broken bones. I could go on for days with all the horrors of this industry. If you aren’t vegan go visit slaughterhouse smell, witness what happens perhaps that would change you.
