This is incredible, HE is incredible. I honestly don't think I've ever been so in love with a character in my life. Everything he is, everything he does, to think it's all because of his love for Thomas. It's heartbreaking and it's beautiful. This show isn't just a show about pirates, it's about fighting inner demons and fighting for what you believe in; it's about passion, determination, and devotion. That's who the real James is. Captain Flint is just a mask, a shadow of a man, something he can hide behind whilst he fights those demons, and comes to grips with who he actually is. And I think John will help him see it. That their friendship will allow him to finally accept himself, to find peace within himself. So yeah basically, this video is everything. I still can't believe I have to wait 6 months for season 4 I am not ok.

This Captain Flint is one of my favourite characters of all time and Toby Stephens one of the best and most intense actors I've ever seen. His eyes are mesmerizing and you can read through them all his pain, all his love, brutally wrenched, and the dreams he has. He's a sort of modern Ulysses, but I recognize also a bit of Hamlet and Don Quixote. I really hope he won't die at the end of season four: his greatness, in bad and good, of course, deserves to live.

Adorei todos os personagens. Mas ao contrário de muitos aqui, eu me pergunto pq me apaixonei tanto por Billy ???? Será que seus demônios estavam tão escondidos que os outros não viram ? Alguém me ajuda a entender? Quando ele fecha a porta e não mata a Madi, eu pensei: não me decepcione Billy !! E ele não me decepcionou !! E confesso fiquei muito triste de ver Silver tentar matar Billy, não acreditei !!
@himarkabane3 жыл бұрын
I agree with much of what you have said but I disagree on the ending Captain Flint deserved. In order to achieve what he set himself to do, he needed to be a monster and he played that role well until that role had him lose everything and end up at odds with his best friend Silver. No one can change a civilization not one as big as england as fast as Flint hoped to. Having sacrificed everything to this end left him a changed man, a man undesrving of anything but a tragic ending. I liked how the show ended with Silver killing Flint then using his power of storytelling to conjure a compelling illusion about the unmaking of Captain Flint to end the rebellion and placate Mady and the maurauds. The story was even compelling to fool the soft hearted audience that the biggest villain of the new world, the pirate captain Flint was enjoying retirement with the lost love of his life instead of rotting in a shallow grave somewhere in skeleton island. I still hope though he maded somehow, maybe Billy who was also left stranding on that island found him and nursed him back to health plotting a revenge against Silver's rule as pirate king.

Absolutely amazing video, by far my favorite Black Sails tribute video. The song is perfect! They lyrics go so well with Flint/McGraw; 'so far from who I was' Flint is a completely different person than McGraw, so far removed from the ideals and values that McGraw held. 'From who I love' losing Mrs. Barlow drove Flint even farther into the darkness, snapping his belief that reconciliation of any sort could be reached with England. 'From who I want to be,' there are multiple ways this is true. He is far from who he wanted to be originally as McGraw, and even at the beginning of adopting Captain Flint. And yet he remains far from his goal of united Nassau and becoming their 'king.' Such a tragic, inspirational, and multi-faceted character!!

I've been stuck here, on your channel, for a while, to be precise, since the video tribute for Charles Vane. I have no words, yet, I cannot express properly myriad of feelings that accompany me as I'm watching this m a s t e r p i e c e, put my appreciation, full worship for your skills, into words. Cutting the long story short: this is the first comment I've ever written on youtube. Although I've been trying to comment on this video so many times, I've given up every single time. But I cannot resist the urge that pushes me to scream "thank you" at the top of my lungs. Ladies and gentelmen, this is by far t h e b e s t tribute to James Flint's character I have seen and I honestly doubt whether anyone else is able to combine such excellent quality (effects, coloring, all the quotes; edit on the whole) with such profound understanding of Flint's motives, passions, emotions, longings, and, above all, his ambitions. I have an issue with this TV series. It seems terrifyingly strange to me that that I've never felt connected on such deep, spiritual level with any of the pop culture characters before. Captain Flint's character is somewhat a source of inspiration for me, more: the part of me was put into this show, used to create his character and from the moment I started to watch Black Sails - I found myself trapped in Inception settled at the back of my mind. I found something entirely for my own, that every viewer can interpret differently and yet, it doesn't matter. I can c o n n e c t, I feel understood, I feel... Engaged. I am truly in love with Flint's character and absolutely adore his developement (alongside brilliant John Silver and Charles Vane) throughout the seasons. But it is season 3 that let Toby Stevens flesh out his full potential. Season 4 was an excellent ending to this long journey of his, but I'm disappointed. I wanted to reach the final destination with Flint... But simultaneously, I didn't want the journey to end. It hurt to see it. So here I am again; Odysseus who returned to Itaca. How heartbreaking is the constant battle between what is right and acceptable in the society we're part of and what is right according to our own credo. Struggle of the individual loyal to his beliefs and a m b i t i o u s to his very core, at the same time fearing of losing his good name, reputation, dignity, humanity in the eyes of the people that surround him. People that will judge, but won't understand. A monster, a villain: someone who doesn't "tame his demons, but always keeps them on the leash". I am grateful to the writers of Black Sails for making Flint so terribly h u m a n. I am grateful to you for making that stunning video. It captures the true essence of James Flint's character, his choices, his feelings, his d e p t h. Unforgettable experience. Thank you.

Okay, so first you amazed me with your Vane tribute and now this. I mean seriously, this is pure perfection. The editing, the music, the quotes and all... You had a so great hold of his character and its development with this video, it's truly incredible. I'm just sitting here loving it haha. :D (And secretly hoping that there will be a Billy Bones tribute once as well, I love his character so much but I've never found any video of him except the Billy/Flint ones which is really not my thing. :D) Keep on the amazing work! :)

Oh please.....could somebody please help me to find this beautiful song of the video? I'm helpless in love with video, song, character of Flint, the actor himself and last, but not least, the series Black Sails! I searched on Amazon for this song and I found some CDs from the artist, but not that song! I love it so much. But I think I'll become easily a great fan of this artist, too......his songs are so .....mindful and lovely to hear! Actually I'm a heavy metal fan, but sometimes in a special mood......this will be a brilliant ear-tickler! And to joeclauk for loading up this video. Great work!!!

"People are peculiar creatures. All their actions are driven by desire; their characters forged by pain. As much as they might try to suppress the pain, to repress desire, they cannot liberate themselves from eternal servitude to their feelings. As long as the storm rages within them, they can find no peace. Not in life, not in death. As so, day after day, they will do all that must be done. Pain is their ship, desire is their compass. All that, humanity is capable of."

Season 1 becomes an entirely different experience once you know who Flint really is, and what he's been through. Once you know that he's essentially a broken man, a fragment of who he once was, then everything he does just... clicks.
