Sakura is actually being really good. She’s not attacking she’s just claiming her territory. I wouldn’t be upset by this at all. If you continue with these interactions, eventually, Sakura will get used to him being around and at that point, you can leave them alone. I would be reassured by this!

Joey please don't let what happened with Sakura scare you, I'm a cat mum and rescuer and this is what it look like 90% of the time if you just place two strange cats in a room together they're not like dogs they're much more territorial and it takes time to do a proper introduction. Please watch Jackson Galaxy videos about introducing cats and be patient, Sakura really needs company and lonely cats often get depressed. Good luck I know you can do it.

Shelters don’t separate cats, they however do pair them based on temperament. They’re also not separated in the wild. Separating cats is honestly the worst thing you can do. They will forever be seen as an outsider, as well, it torments cats when they can smell a cat but can’t see it and don’t know where it is. Or if they do, and they wanna check that cat out closer, they’re both on edge because they can’t fully see each other. It’s honestly best to just..let them work it out right away and not separate (if there’s no risk for disease spread and they will be monitored)

Joey they will get along eventually. I worked at a Animal Hospital for many years. The best way to introduce them is to try to get them to play paws under a door. If you put the kitten on one side of a door, perhaps the bathroom in the kitten room and sit with Sakura on the other side and play with a thin toy that will fit under the door they will start playing and will get along. It just takes a little patience. And when both are playing paws with each other for a while you can crack one door open and they will take a little bit of time then (Sakura will probably hiss for an hour) and then they will most likely be good with each other.
@TheSevenLands2 жыл бұрын
My cats never got along. My female bullied and dominated the male until he died. She wanted to be the sole cat again and I have never seen a cat become so happy as she did when he died. She waited for it for his entire 12 years. It just doesn’t always work.

I just brought home a boy kitten, i had already 2 older cats. The female cat was more like sakura is. its totally normal. they will not get into a fight. i dont know joey letting the cat be around the house. But the dogs can learn to be around cats to. Iv got a dog that would chase my cats, but its a no no. And just learn the dog. But Joey have so many dogs. Maybe he need some help in the beginning. And never give up. Dont let the animals rule.
@michellebull91842 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have had so many fosters as well. It was a rushed introduction and I always start with the under the door method until there is interest on both sides of meeting, but it is what it is now. My latest kitten and cats were playing under the door and wanted to meet each other within a couple of hours. I let them met and put her back in the kitten room at night until the morning. Then after a couple of days of that they were fine being left together overnight. Hopefully Joey is successful with getting them to play and Sakura will hopefully enjoy the company of another cat. Usually the under the door playing method works out. Also, he has a dog gate on the bottom floor so if he decides to keep the kitten they can stay on their side if need be. However, I have a big 80 pound dog that I have trained to “leave it”. At first it’s work to get the dog(s) to understand the cats need to be left alone but it can be done. My dog now is best friends with one of my cats and they roll around on the floor together and even cuddle. It’s all about training at first and then they will figure out their animal level friendship or ignoring each other…lol. And about the peeing question, the best way to approach this is putting litter boxes where your cat pees in the house. Even if it’s in the living room and not an optimal place to put a litter box. Hopefully your cat will start going in the boxes again and you can gradually inch them back to less litter boxes around the house and back to a good location. Also, cats have very sensitive noses. So, if the location of the litter box that you want them to use is in a bathroom with lots of products scents or air freshener they don’t like lots of strong scents and may be looking for an alternative place to go. I hope this was helpful to you. 💕🐾🐾
@tabbychan5212 жыл бұрын
@Tess usually when cats pee outside of the box there’s an underlying issue that needs to be addressed. I had a cat that had accidents for a while and I didn’t realize my other cat had been guarding the box from him and getting a second box in a different area completely solved the issue. There’s a special litter sold at most pet stores labeled as “cat attract” or something like that and it may help attract your cat to use the little box! Hopefully this helps again if not maybe it’s something to bring up next time they’re at the vet!

If you really want to keep another cat in the future you are going to have to see if they get used to each other over time. Most cats just hiss at each other for a while but eventually stop. They will have to be around each other more than once, you can’t really judge it off of one time. If she never stops hissing and being uncomfortable then you probably shouldn’t lol, but you never know till you try. Most the cats you introduce are a one time thing so if you find another cat you want to keep give it some time, see how things go ❤️

I helped my friend foster and at first the one cat hissed for about 3 days, then they stopped, about 2 weeks later, the cats became best friends. so the person who adopted got both of them.
@melissas48742 жыл бұрын
This is not always the case. We had one foster who got use to our cats, was all over our home and fine. A couple of weeks later he started hiding in the room again, would hiss at the other cats, and was defecating under the bed. I've had cats that they were "use" to each other as long as they stayed away from each other. This is why they should be kept in separate rooms and allowed to sniff each other through the door. But I have also had a case where I brought a cat home and within 24 hours the new cat and my older one were playing under the door and cleaning each others paws - they are unique just as humans are.
@KarlaLopez-ko8lb2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes you just really can’t. I want another dog or cat so bad but my dog is hates other dogs being in her home so much that she starts to salivate like as if she were a big Bernese mountain dog or something. Her being stressed is enough for me to not want another dog or cat. I know she would probably eventually get used to it but it’s too much.
@jedimasterspidermad51732 жыл бұрын
@@KarlaLopez-ko8lb dogs being with a cat is a different situation though. Yes, when cats meet a new cat it still can be rough and won't always work out. Dog behavior is different. Cats tend to imprint and CAN have the ability to stick with another cat. Whereas dogs focus on the dominant part. Even though dogs and cats can be friends, they behave differently.

That's a very sad fact. Literally millions of dogs and cats are euthanized in US shelters every year because they end up there through no fault of their own, and the shelters do not have space for them. I know Joey is doing an amazing job, but unfortunately, most animals in need of homes don't get this type of exposure.

I would say the interaction went quite well considering. Micah was respectful of Sakura's space and whilst she was making all those growls and hisses she never deliberately approached Micah to attack him. She's just used to being her own cat and establishing HER area. The real test is feeding them in the same room. Food is a great distraction plus something positive to gain from close proximity

It took my cats around two weeks to fully get along with each other, now I'm not able to separate them from each other for even a short amount of time. My boy really loves other cats, but my girl does not. Same when I left my 2 cats for three weeks with my parents while traveling. My parents have three cats and it also took them around two weeks to get fully used to my cats. It's often a really nerving time and you need a lot of patience, but its really rewarding seeing them together in the end. Its good to switch out beds and toys in the beginning so they get used to each others smell. Then start introducing the while playing with them so they won't be too focused on the other cat. Hissing itself is not too bad, as long they don't fight, it will probably become less over time and then stop totally.

I rescued two kittens(5weeks old) and had to introduce them to my 10yr old cat. She hated me, but she just hisses at them sometimes, she still does but more as a grumpy old cat, she plays with now and shares the bed with them. ^^ it takes time, don’t worry! I rescued a 4 week old kitten out of the parking garage at my job. She was so small and once I took her home she clung to me, I am her human now. Fast forward 5 months and I thought she needed a friend and a girl I work with had a rescue that needed a home. It was perfect, they were the same age, they were both spayed/neutered and he’s part Maine Coon so I really wanted him. So I’m brought him home. My female wanted nothing to do with him. She didn’t attack she just hissed/growled every time he came close to her. He has such a laid back temperament that he was like whatever but he kept trying to make friends with her. Finally after 5 days they were running around playing!! They just need time to get used to each other.
@Floubiage2 жыл бұрын
Don’t be discouraged. I have adopted and rescued cats and what worked for me is that I had them in separate rooms. My cat was with me and the new member was in another room. I would go back and forth, after sometime, my cat was allowed next to the room where the other cat would be. So they can introduce themselves. Mostly hate but I saw them playing with their paws, it looks like at the beginning that everything is not going to be ok but they end up the best friend.

Introducing cats takes time and patience. If you force it upon them, it stresses both of them out. Separate them with a transparent fence of some kind so they both see eachother but can barely interact. That way they can get used to each other's scent without the hissing.

it is honestly never easy introducing new cats to an already established family of cats, even if that family is only 1 cat. if you plan on keeping him, or plan on getting/keeping another cat in the future, i'd suggest gradually introducing them to each other's spaces. maybe bring Sakura into the kitten room too. it'll be slow progress, but still progress, and soon they will be best buds. I personally think Sakura needs a friend, specifically since she spends most of her time upstairs and so you don't have to worry about her being lonely when you aren't with her. but that's all up to you. anyway, I know you or someone else will give Mikah a loving home!

my friends and i took in four strey kittens that were born outside my grandmother's home a good few years back (i think early 2013), and took them to her home. her four other cats were hezitant when introduced to them later, but they soon got used to them and grew very close. most of those 4 original cats are gone now, since they were old to begin with, but the cats are still happy there today and get along with what remains of the originals.

The hissing is fine. It's just Sakura saying "Hey! I'm uncomfortable! Dont get any closer!" And setting a boundary. The kitten will learn and Sakura will likely get used to him once she realizes he isnt any threat to her. She'll probably smack him a few times but just shake some treats or throw a toy or something to get their attention off each other. Definitely dont grab at either amd make the encounter scary in any way, it just enforces that this is a bad thing

Don’t be scared about introducing them for the first time. It’s just a new kitty in Sakura’s established place that she is defensive. Let them get to know each other through the door or just slowly at a time like you tried doing here. He’s young enough for her to grow to him in time if you’re going to keep him, or with any kitty you chose in the future. I adopted a kitty and got him a friend a few months later and it took them a bout three days to get used to each other, now they’re inseparable and I couldn’t be happier about that.

As somone who has had multiple cats living together (I have 3) but i had multiple cats growing up. They will hiss and be "mad" for maybe a week and then they'll get over it. Sakura probably needs someone of her own "species" to bond with and not be lonely.

Isn't it weird the cats that end up the last of a litter? All three of our cats were in kind of similar situations. Our male cat was actually found by himself on the side of the road in the rain, he's going to be 9 next year and still gets sniffles, but he went from being super skinny runt to a 20 lb Turkish Angora that insists on being a lap cat. He's soooo pretty. Our other two girls that were both the last of two different litters and could NOT find a home despite being brought into the vet's office every day for a month, which I never understood because they're both adorable and friendly. All three of our cats are as friendly as they get, two of them absolutely love strangers. Always boggles my mind that they were considered "rejects" when visitors are amazed how much they love people.

Don't forget she's been on her own for quite a while. But please don't give up keep at it, either by putting them on each side of a closed door or while your in the room, but don't worry if she gives him a check out it's perfectly normal. He will not be harmed by her I promise. Xx

My cat was like that with my foster kittens, but they gradually came together on their own. He has always been a single cat, and is like that with every group of kittens that we foster. If you leave the kitten door open and make sure they both have their space in the house, they will come together on their own. Litter training puppies is not the best idea especially because they will grow to be big and Joey you have cats. (We tried this because they are dirty and stinky) They will want to go in a litter box instead of outside… It definitely is a plus that Monty is potty trained. Montana will teach them to go outside when they are old enough.. It’s better to let her do her job of teaching them how to be dogs, because she is such a well behaved dog!!!

So if they got nothing nice to say don’t say it at all this is Joey’s channel and I don’t think Joey likes people putting Daniel down didn’t like it he would tell him . I love this channel I love looking at all the animals that Joey rescues .

All cats hiss at first. Took my cat a month to accept my other cat. Just have to intorcude them each day. Feed them together, not too close but get closer each day etc. now they cannot live apart. They love eachother. I have 1 boy and one girl. Its best to have opposite sex as easier for them to get along.

When i got my second cat my older cat showed this type of behaviour. She would make lots of noises but didn't do anything. After about two days they were cuddled up on the couch and older cat had claimed the kitten as hers.

hey joey don’t be discouraged! i’ve got 2 cats. poppy & saturn & poppy is VERY territorial & a huge brat lol. she did not like saturn at all when i first got him & would hiss, snarl, & claw at him. now they’re best friends & inseparable it just takes some time. you got this! 🫶🏼

Sakura needs and loves this kitten , she just doesn't know it yet. We introduced our elderly cat to kitten it took awhile but they loved each others company in the end.

Omg i would give anything to have one of those beautiful babies! I love Goldens, they have a special place in my heart, I lost my beautiful baby one morning on the floor by my bedroom door, right before my eyes and there was nothing I could do... just watch him take his last breath, he was not only my baby, but my support dog. He left that day and took a part of me with him!! Please let me know if you are adopting? Thank you

Just let the kitties get used to each other. They will besties eventually. Also I saw a puppy potty training video where they put them on turf and trained them to use that. Then when they were old enough to go outside they went potty in the grass.

As someone who as rescued 6 cats over the last 16 years, you have to give it time when introducing a new car onto the family. You have to let them have their own space and time. There will be growling, hissing and even slapping. That is how they set their boundaries until they are ready to co-habitate. With each one of our introductions it probably took a week before they could be right next to each other without hissing. But they all became friends and were grooming each other soon after. Give it time.

Hey Joey I recommend trying to put the puppies in groups for feeding time makes it less stressful for the mama.

If Micha could come to Australia I would take him in a heart beat 💓🥺 Cats take time to get use to each other I've gone through 5 different adult cats I had an old boy and I decided to get a kitten it took about a week till they were fully okay with each other but having a kitten with with older cat brought out his inner kitten and it sadly was his last run but I'm grateful hoe the last of his life was as it he surrounded by loving animals that made him happy

Joey please give Jackson Galaxy and Cole & Marmalade a watch! They have exceptional videos on how to introduce two cats to one another! I absolutely agree that it would be really beneficial for Sakura to have another kitty friend! The introduction needs to be much more gradual rather than having them both in a room with the door closed though! Sakura was actually behaving really well given the circumstances, just letting Micah know her boundaries and making it clear that this is her territory and you're her human; she felt threatened by his presence as a new cat in her world. Thank you for everything you do for animals! 💚

I tried puppy pellets for litter box training on my pomchi. I tired compressed sawdust ones and the newsprint kind. My puppy ate them both...BE SURE YOU SUPERVISE THE NEW LITTER BOX FOR THE FIRST FEW HOURS... good chance you've got a pellet eater in that bunch of 11.

Yes just leave them both to roam free they will get used to each other the more you keep them separated they will not get used to it. They may never be best friends but if they are both free to roam they will learn to share the space
