Why did they fire Pardo?
@tvmonte18 күн бұрын
@@BallparkHunter It was supervising producer Michael O'Donoghue's idea and he wanted to do it on air but executive producer Dick Ebersol vetoed that! He also votoed firing director Dave Wilson which was also Mr. Mike's idea. After O'Donohue was fired mid-season, Pardo was hired back the following season. As for why Mr. Mike wanted them fired, there was some views of the then-rookie staff of the original shows that both Wilson and Pardo were "too professional" for their jobs and may have wanted amateurs like themselves...

This montage really shows how the cast "glowed up" over the years. They went from a not-ready-for-prime-time cast full of awkward, gawky 70s hipsters with little to no makeup to a "so ready for their close-up in a big budget feature" cast full of Hollywood beautiful leading men & ladies.
@daviddean1326Ай бұрын
You missed one - maybe because the names weren't announced in the first season, but George Coe WAS one of the original Not Ready For Prime Time Players. There were eight names on the first title cards, and he didn't even get mentioned in the movie. But he WAS there, from the beginning.
@zanti413220 күн бұрын
If my memory is correct, Coe was listed as a Not Ready For Prime Time Player only for the first episode, although he did appear in sketches throughout the first season. The intro for the first episode didn't have images of the performers, so there is no image of Coe's face for this video. But then, the lack of a face shot from the intro didn't stop this video from including Michael O'Donoghue. 😊
@daviddean132620 күн бұрын
@@zanti4132 I just looked up some early episodes on Peacock - he was not listed as a NRFPTP in the Peter Cook & Dudley Moore episode, even though he's in the cold open and appears later in the "Prison Audition" sketch that gave us "Gonna Get Me A Shotgun," but in episode 4, with Candace Bergen, they even forgot to show the card with the first four names, and O'Donoghue is actually listed on the second one. @AntiYourFacePhD15 күн бұрын
My understanding is that Kel auditioned, but had some personal issues preventing him from getting cast.
@joeybaseball735214 күн бұрын
@AntiYourFacePhD it makes absolutely no sense to me why they wouldn't hire both Kenan and Kel. They were like the modern day Abbott and Costello. They already had a undeniable track record in sketch comedy. They had already proven to the world that they work well together. They were a proven comedy duo. All of the best sketches on All That were with Kenan and Kel. They already had a hit sitcom together. They starred in movies together. It's clear that they work well together, and make magic when performing together. It would only make sense to hire both of them, since they both auditioned. And it's sad that only now, 20 years later, are we seeing them work together again. And they've still got it. Good Burger 2 was incredible. Just imagine the gold we could've gotten from Kenan and Kel. Imagine if they brought over Good Burger, like they did on the Jimmy Fallon show. Could you imagine if SNL existed back in the day, and you had both Laurel and Hardy audition. And they only hired Laurel, and not Hardy. When Tracy Morgan and Dean Edwards left (Edwards I believe was fired), they were specifically looking for a black cast member to fill the void. Every black comic auditioned, including now famous comics like Kevin Hart. They ultimately hired Kenan and Finesse Mitchell. And no disrespect to Finesse, he seems like a lovely upright citizen. But he's largely forgotten about. Kenan and Kel would've made magic we'd still be talking about today.

According to Saturday Night Live Wiki: Laurie Metcalf is an American actress, who was a featured player on the April 11, 1981 episode. This makes her the shortest-tenured actor to appear in the SNL cast, except for Emily Prager, who was also credited for that episode but did not appear at all. Metcalf's only appearance was a pre-taped piece for Weekend Update.
@RobertShubitowski15 күн бұрын
@@carp68 The 1980-81 season was a disaster. Lorne had left the show and wouldn't return for five years. The cast had been completely overhauled, and I believe many of them, along with the new producer, were fired late in the season.
