Johan is the only antagonist that gives me shivers when I see him appearing in the series, his entire character is written very well, no, even awesome written, when I think about if Johan was real, my mind gets filled with dread because of what a person he is. He is definitely the only antagonist that can give you the feeling of uncanny when he appears, that's why he is my favourite antagonist in all of animanga. Naoki Urasawa is truly fascinating and a legend.

Johan is one of the greatest antagonists in fiction for me, he is not just a man, he's a figure. A perfect one, every step he takes, every movement he makes is so inhumanely perfect. He is by all definition of the word a "monster", he's an idea. How fucked up can a person be? Johan is nihilism, personified. And in my opinion, he's the framework for a nihilistic villain and the ideal nihilistic villain.

​@@NagvanshieusDefinitely watch it, every character in Monster is just peak writing. The show has a long progression tho, but I never found that a problem as every episode is good. And some episodes (29, 33, 37, 44, etc.) are worth 1,000 episodes of watching. One of the best side characters, Grimmer, appears 40 episodes into the series too, so don't drop it right away, trust me

I love how much Johan is built up throughout the first quarter of the series. The more Tenma and the audience learn about his past and what he has done he starts to feel less like a person and more like a cryptic myth, so when he finally shows up again at the university it sends shivers down your spine.
