Nicely done! I like to think that this is exactly the kind of thing that Bach would have wanted his pupils to do with the Inventions.

The pedals add nothing. They are merely part of a dog-and-pony show.

@@herrickinman9303 I respectfully disagree - the pedals *do* add "something" - whether you like it or not is a another matter. These pieces were primarily didactic in nature. I think that Bach intended them to be, among other things, a starting point for his pupils and, given his practice of arranging and rearranging his own music for different instruments and different purposes it doesn't seem at all unreasonable to me to use the pedals if you happen to find yourself playing this piece on an organ.

@@md95065 You're trying to justify your endorsement of the pedals by citing your dubious assumptions about Bach's intentions. It's highly unlikely that anyone in Bach's time who had access to an organ (and someone to pump the bellows) would have used the organ to play the Inventions in the manner of this video. Surely, they could have found more suitable music, e.g., music in at least 3 parts, for manuals and pedals. According to the title page of the Inventions and Sinfonias, Bach's stated purpose was to provide: Forthright instruction, wherewith lovers of the clavier, especially those desirous of learning, are shown in a clear way not only 1) to learn to play two voices clearly, but also after further progress 2) to deal correctly and well with three obbligato parts, 3) moreover at the same time to obtain not only good ideas, but also to carry them out well, 4) but most of all to achieve a cantabile style of playing, and thereby to acquire a strong foretaste of composition. The title page doesn't say one little word about arranging or rearranging. Surely, you're not really going to suggest that duplicating the 2nd voice of a 2-part invention on a manual and pedals is what Bach meant by obtaining good ideas, carrying them out well, achieving a cantabile style of playing, and acquiring a strong foretaste for composition. The pedals in this video are nothing more than a feature of the performer's dog-and-pony show, intended to wow people like you.

@@herrickinman9303 Why can't you just let people enjoy playing music? If you don't like this performance and/or arrangement, then go away and stop bringing negativity into this comment section.
Why are you playing a 2-part invention on two manuals AND pedals, when you only need one manual? The pedals are merely part of a dog-and-pony show.

This is an arrangement by Max Reger where the right hand and pedals are the original line, the left hand is an added third part from Reger. I guess if you're deaf and can't hear the contrapuntal significance you're beyond help.
