this is so good!! I was talking about this stuff recently, that the whole idea of continual growth that underpins capitalism becomes absolutely meaningless when you have to confront your own mortality, which is why the wealthiest people are doing whatever they can (young blood transfusions, freezing themselves? etc.) to avoid it. what's the point of perpetual accumulation and consumption if you can't take any of it with you? this system only has any meaning for people if they can live forever and enjoy the fruits of their accumulation/consumption. anyway I could go on forever but this is so good and I'm glad you're talking about it. also love your shirt!

I like this video, my criticism is NOT talking about whiteness as the antithesis of death itself. That component is critical, as black persons like myself have completely different opinions and relationships to death. White supremacy is a big part of this conversation, as whiteness embodies that ideological attempt at avert death, making blackness itself death by compassion.

totally! I'd say whiteness is a death cult tho, while being obsessed with immortality it promotes death more than any other culture. I feel like in some of my videos lately im trying to talk about like the cultural elements of whiteness (to move away from the racial understanding of whiteness and towards a cultural analysis) - so things like thanophobia; entitlement; cultural, ancestral and ecological alienation. but could definitely do more to emphasise that whiteness is what im trying to talk about.

Listening to your thoughts is such a wonderful breath of fresh air. I came to your channel from the podcast / collab thing you did with Mexie. I feel like I have so many thoughts that I can't put into words right now so I'll just leave with a simple but heart-felt thank you :)

This was great. I really appreciate all these thoughts. I've been thinking about how western thought views death and life as binary and opposite from each other. I am skeptical of my previous experiences with binaries (heh heh, enby joke, I'll see myself out) so I've been trying to interrogate this binary as well. I was fortunate to be with my Grandmother while she was dying, and there was not a specific moment I would point to as the moment when she died. Partly that's because the hospice wasn't monitoring her biometrics the way that a hospital does, but I think it's also that it was a much more gradual transition then I've been taught to view it: there was not a moment when she passed from life to death, it took place over the course of several hours (or her whole life, if we want to zoom even further out). And when you talk about food and soil being dead (hadn't quite thought about it in those terms!) these things are also very life-giving. And, of course, all of our atoms are recycled into everything else. From dust, to dust, etc. I had not been thinking about how isolation creates our fear of death, and that viewing ourselves in the context of history can be healing. Very helpful. Thank you.

With a Beginning comes an End. It's the Nature of Life itself. Life is literally like a Movie. Theres good parts and Bad. And unfortunately that movie has To End. When I was a kid the Thought of death Scared me SO much. The thought of my body no Longer being here and life going on w/o me. But as life continues i realise I'm in this moment in time for a Reason. This is OUR Moment. No one breathing on this Planet right now will be here in 100 years 😂 when you think of it that way it makes it easier to let Go. I'm not Dying Alone. I'm dying with the People of my Generation. Besides who wants to live forever I'm sure it will get Boring at Some point 💖 I enjoyed this Video
