If you look the "Music in this video" section in the description, you'll see that five of the six songs are credited to be part of the album "Mother Sketches for Opera". Before Johann pass, Aronofsky stated that he and the composer are turning the film to an opera, so it's logical to think that those tracks are unused and reworked themes composed for the movie adapted into the opera. If interesting how no one here or in any other place of the web are noticing that. The second track is for an album called "Athaliah", I don't find anything related with Johannson and that name, so it could be a new instrumental album he was working in.

His music would have given Blade Runner a great darker edge, a unique sign.

Absolutely, it is unique and original yet it gives more subtle homage to Vangelis. I dont like the Zimmer soundtrack, it hurt great directing and cinematography.

@@adamostadal690 This is not a popular opinion but I thought the film lacked in overal experience due to its attempt to stay close to Ridley's film. Ooh look its Harisson Ford and he is the Blade Runner again, I didn't need that. The film is an achievement, atmosphere and cinematography. But it lacked. Zimmer's score was to smooth and clean, but wasn't the main problem.

@@cill521 Completely disagree. Harrison Ford was in the movie for like 10 minutes, and he wasn't "the blade runner" again. Totally paid off in the end. What a beautiful ending to his storyline. The film was ultimately about Ryan Gosling's character, though. And it's far more complex and thought out then the first Blade Runner. Love every minute of 2049. Johann's score would have given it a different feel, though, which probably would have been amazing as well.

@@mrcoatsworth429 there you go. You're the reason he was in it. Fan service and sentimentality. I don't care about those things, there are more interesting things to talk about.

@@cill521 bullshit. That's exactly the shit I hate. When he showed up in the trailer, I groaned. But they absolutely made it work and he's not in it as a fan service. He serves a purpose in the overall story. Sorry you don't see it. And the first movie barely has much of a story at all.

Every year on August 15th, the spirits of the dead return from heaven to this world. There is such a culture in Japan. On a date close to that, his work seems to have been sent from heaven. I certainly take it in Japan.

I can see why Denis and Johann came to agree this wouldn't work for BR2049. This OST births its own fresh identity. It emancipates a completely new and unique charm. Denis and Hans approached it differently. They found the appropriate threshold to create a film with it's own personality but still be bound by it's predecessor.

I very much like JJ's work - even saw him live in Brooklyn a few years back. But this wouldn't fly for the BR sequel. I think in one way it brings too much attention to itself and in another, it's fairly uninteresting. Zimmer may have his faults, but when you listen to his, and how he was able to craft new music while also paying homage to Vangelis, you can see why Villeneuve went with him.

Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2019 is the top choice. They suggest it was 'A' project, not 'projects', though I'd love to hear some of Johann's early treatments for Aronofsky's mother!
