I have to give this to Mick Mars, he composed so many great riffs. He's got all my respect. However, hearing them played by John 5 is an amazing audio experience. He plays this stuff flawlessly and I also know why these riffs sound so good in this video... It's simply because Vince Neil is not there to ruin everything.

I think it’s great that a musician like J5 is honouring Mick Mars and playing his stuff so respectfully.

Further proof that Mick Mars is underappreciated. Its one thing to play a collection of licks, but another altogether to create them

I didn't really ever like the band much. However as a guitar player myself. Mick had some awesome rifts, he is the reason the band was a success imo.

Very, very true! I’m a touring drummer and can nail Rush, or whatever, but I’d probably suck trying to create an original part, in fact I know I would.

Not only that. But John 5 plays em perfectly. Self taught. John 5 is an amazing guitar player. I don’t think there is anything he can’t listen to once & play. His own music is gold too.

I just got into his playing when he was playing vanhalen during an interview. Not many players around that good that I know of. Eddie was best in my opinion and nobody will replace him. John 5 is in my top ten and it’s a good top ten. Great melody!

It still bothers me that John 5 is in motley now. From a business point of view, career step, and the chance to honor the ONLY guy who is/was a REAL musician in a otherwise shitty band ... yeah, I get it. But John is EASILY one of the best guitarists in this genre who can stay clear of being a hired gun and continue, on his own, to clown so many other over-hyped musicians from almost any genre of music without trying to turn it all into a contest or with any hint of intended malice. A fine example of someone who is highly respected and yet under-appreciated. Had the pleasure of working on a tour he did with another band and got to watch/listen to him daily as he showed up early for sound checks and noodle around with his guitar and then do this impromptu hour-long Bluegrass music jam by himself to warm up ..... the guy is flat out amazing. Full stop.
