John 9: Why did Yeshua use Spit and Clay to Heal?

In this week's Besorah, Yeshua restores sight to a man born blind by rubbing clay mixed with saliva in his eyes. The scriptures don't give any explanation for Yeshua's mysterious actions, but in this video, we explore the Jewish literature and traditions of Yeshua's time and discover why he healed using spit and clay.

As Christians we must understand the importance of the Jewish traditions and laws to understand Our Savior Yeshua' actions instead of using modernized opinions and men's interpretations. The beauty of the scriptures reveal themselves through The Spirit.

Thank you. Good stuff. I like how Jesus wasn't afraid to touch what Jews considered unclean (blind eyes, deaf ears, mute tongue, ect.). Jews considered infirmities to be punishment for sins. Therefore the afflicted were treated as outcasts and shunned by their own people. Jesus not only healed them physically, but gave them life back more abundantly in the form of being welcomed by their people. I imagine that the afflicted would never have thought that they were worthy enough to have a rabi touch areas that no one had probably ever have thought to touch due to the clean laws. I am worthy, I am clean, I am restored, I am better than I could have imagined, I owe it to Jesus.

Again, my mind has been blown away by this knowledge. It is beautiful to see that the Mishnah, Hashem’s law and His only begotten Son fit perfectly in this story of Salvation. Beautifully explained teacher!

I like the idea of the spit proving who our Lord is according to the first born story, thank you for that!! Also towards the end when you shared man was dust and spit, that fits what I'm going to share here IF we consider the saliva to be Gods Spiritfilled Word mixed with dust...thus man with Gods Spirit breathed into him!! As for how i came to understand it, to start with the blindness Jesus speaks of that is given to man to bring the Father glory is a spiritual blindness so that God may have mercy on all. We know this from these verses: What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they ARE ALL UNDER SIN. Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and ALL THE WORLD MAY BECOME GUILTY BEFORE GOD. Romans 3:9‭, ‬19 NKJV And Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, THAT THOSE WHO DO NOT SEE MAY SEE, and that THOSE WHO SEE MAY BE MADE BLIND.” Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, “Are we blind also?” Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains. John 9:39‭-‬41 NKJV What then? Israel has not obtained what it seeks; but the elect have obtained it, and THE REST WERE BLINDED. Just as it is written: “God has given them a spirit of stupor, Eyes THAT THEY SHOULD NOT SEE And ears that they should not hear, To this very day.” LET THEIR EYES BE DARKENED, so THAT THEY DO NOT SEE, And bow down their back always.” For God has committed them all to disobedience, that HE MIGHT HAVE MERCY ON ALL. Romans 11:7‭-‬8‭, ‬10‭, ‬32 NKJV The method that He has chosen to use, that of mud is also symbolic of how He opens men's eyes!! He takes dirt (or dust) and mixes it with His spit (or water) to make the man see. The dust is man and the water is the Word of God...and together we get MUD, or man speaking the gospel!! In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you RETURN TO THE GROUND, For out of it you were taken; FOR DUST YOU ARE, And to dust you shall return.” Genesis 3:19 NKJV that He might sanctify and cleanse her WITH THE WASHING OF WATER BY THE WORD, Ephesians 5:26 NKJV On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If ANYONE THIRSTS, LET HIM COME TO ME AND DRINK. John 7:37 NKJV but whoever DRINKS OF THE WATER THAT I SHALL GIVE HIM will never thirst. BUT THE WATER THAT I SHALL GIVE HIM will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:14 NKJV But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You HAVE THE WORDS OF ETERNAL LIFE. John 6:68 NKJV But the word of the Lord endures forever.” Now THIS IS THE WORD WHICH BY THE GOSPEL WAS PREACHED TO YOU. I Peter 1:25 NKJV And we are told this is how God always intended to co-work with man to give sight the lost by Christ Himself: But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to MAKE YOU A MINISTER and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you. I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, TO WHOM I NOW SEND YOU, TO OPEN THEIR EYES, IN ORDER TO TURN THEM FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT, and FROM THE POWER OF SATAN TO GOD, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’ Acts 26:16‭-‬18 NKJV So we can see that yes, God did purposely blind ALL men so that His mercy could be on all and so that He can be glorified as He co-mmissioned man and Him to open their eyes via the preaching of thr Gospel!! And He said to them, “Go into all the world AND PREACH THE GOSPEL TO EVERY CREATURE. And THEY WENT OUT AND PREACHED EVERYWHERE, the LORD WORKING WITH THEM AND CONFIRMING THE WORD through the accompanying signs. AMEN. Mark 16:15‭, ‬20 NKJV

The Savior was sinless: he never violated the Law. He did, however, violate the pettifogging traditions of the Pharisees, demonstrating than man-made custom had no standing before the Lord.
