Abercrombie was and still is my favorite fusion guitar master. Thanx John for music and originally guitar playing.

The first and only time I saw them was in Dübendorf, Switzerland, in exactly this line-up. I had never experienced Jazz like this before. Thanks for the upload!

I think this is one of the greatest concerts ever. The interplay is amazing, the inventiveness, humour, creativity exchanging of hints and quotes. And to hear a jazz violinist who loves Bartok, what a delight !

I have never seen such beauty of playing matched with technical skills. John Abercrombie is timeless as Johan Sebastian Bach.

Thanks very mucho for this extra-special music... upload,etc. Ever since I first heard him in the year 'whenever "Timeless" came out' I've been a huge fan. Saw him with Eddie Gomez, Jack DeJohnette and Lester Bowie in Austin many years ago. This is absolutely gratefully appreciated. Always MAny (Abercrombie Guitar) Blessings, -=S.

Ancora in forma e ispiratissimo il nostro John.Un genio assoluto del Jazz. Alla faccia di chi ritiene che questo genere musicale non abbia sufficiente melodia

+Maurizio Zorzi - Thank you for sharing this great video. This particular instrumentation is interesting for me. With 3 stringed instruments and a drum kit there are a surprising wealth of sonorities. Great band, great players and improvisers... this suits me just fine. Really enjoyed it and definitely will be listening/watching more than once. Thanks again!

Using the thumb instead of a pick does not give the punch that is sometimes needed.
@larryh.31732 жыл бұрын
Yes, there are some trade-offs. But he'd also never get quite _that_ tone out of a pick either. Personally, I like both approaches and would tend to switch techniques depending on the gig or tune.

saw this guy play tonight in new mexico. What I saw and heard was loosely organized and sleepy 65% of the time John Abercrombie didn't play guitar and stared at the ground. He looked tired and disheveled. The drummer was dragging and over-playing all night. Boo.
@Mortison775779 жыл бұрын
+mcigraff Yeah, I saw him once and it wasn't the best. This show is better, don't you think? I don't think he's the most consistent player in terms of quality. Was it Joey Baron on drums? I've noticed he's pretty hit and miss too. Probably the peak years for Abercrombie were the 80's. After that, only some stuff is good.
@SonicArchives9 жыл бұрын
+Ester Samuels I saw him couple of years ago, his health did not seem so good, but he played really well, I was sort of surprised by it, he had nice stereo tone too, he did not seem in good health. Some of his stuff is too far out for me, I bought is songbook. lots of it is fun to play
@Mortison775779 жыл бұрын
SonicArchives Do you think his really far out stuff is "wrong" in terms of music theory?
@SonicArchives9 жыл бұрын
No I think he is good, but here and on other tracks he has very abstract drummer, I really liked his songbook, I have mixed feelings about his records, but that's not to say they are bad. Here I can't tell what chord he is playing over, he has a handful of very good tunes like Blue Wolf, Timeless, Love Song etc..
@SonicArchives9 жыл бұрын
I saw him at jazz showcase in Chicago, I was like in the front row, he noticed we were really listening and came over and said hello after 1st set. He was only player to ever do that. I would see him again if he comes back, kurt rosenwinkel was the best concert i seen at jazz showcase.
