Adams is the ONLY Founding Father without a Washington DC monument. I've been to his birthplace and to Peacefield and UFPC, etc, but he still isn't given NEARLY the recognition that other people have. You may have learned about Adams in Quincy/Braintree. In California, I didn't know who he was truly until I was grown and watch 1776.

All I can say is Thank God, he didn't burn the letters. Martha Washington did after the General passed. They'd given so much of their personal lives to the country, they wanted the private kept private, but what a loss to history now. Reading Abigail's correspondence and John's replies, always beginning: "My Dearest Friend," is wonderful. Nothing shows what people from history were really like as PEOPLE than their own words. Thank God, he didn't burn the letters. God rest them both.

John Adams is one of the best people from the American revolution. And he is often overlooked from what I can tell. People talk about Washington, Jefferson, Hamilton and Franklin but John Adams is often overlooked and from what I can tell he did more than anyone. He was also one of the only people that wanted to remain true to Washington by not joining in conflict with other nations but instead stay neutral. In my opinion John Adams is the greatest of all the founding fathers. A war in Europe so soon after their own revolution could have destroyed America before it was really even started.

And yet he was the leading voice he was the founder who advocated for independence. I mean there are monuments to Alexander Hamilton who was not in the resurgence until Lin Manuel Miranda made a Broadway musical in 2015 which is awesome btw. Even after this 2008 HBO series, there are still no monuments to the second president of these United States. Granted he was not a great president but he was an influential founding father and along with Hamilton was one of the most important founders. Maybe someone should pull an Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton and raise funds to establish a monument honoring the father of our navy.
