I first loved John Alexander as Sutherland's Pollione on LP. I grew up in the sticks (deathplace of Bonnie and Clyde) and rarely got to see opera live (until I moved here to Los Angeles at the age of 35). In 1972, I traveled 50 miles west to Shreveport, Louisiana to see Beverly Sills in La Fille du Regiment with Alexander as her Tonio. (And G_d love Sills for her visits to the sticks!) Thanks for posting this!

I purchased the LP while in Beligium after seeing in a record store. Loved it. Then i got to hear the same wonderful cast at the met. Sutherland, Horne, Alexander and Richard Cross. Still my most favorite. Although I love Callas, Ludwig and Corelli as well, perhaps because of Callas but then its only my opinion and hopefully no one minds is with negative comments.
