Thank you, mladen! We recently found some more footage of John's soundcheck that day in our #DZVault. We'll publish it as soon as we have the chance! With better image quality as well.

Brother what I've learned from studying the styles of John Blackwell, Dennis Chambers and others is that they got their foundation of playing from studying and mentoring under the Greats before them and took those learned habits and expressed it in their own way. They became great by establishing their own identity on the drums. In essence, advancing in drumming is not about drumming better than John Blackwell , rather take what you can learn from John and Express it in your own way. The reality is you'll never be able to play better than John Blackwell because there was only ONE John Blackwell. - RIP to one of the greatest musicians to ever grace the drums.🙏🏽

Put Tony Williams and Billy Cobham in a blender with your favorite funk guy and out came John Blackwell Jr.
