Finally someone that understands the high hat is the heart of this song... great job...always heard the reason they brought phil Collins in at liveaid was tony Thompson couldn't get the intro down...rock and roll indeed...

Agreed, the laid back feel and drums……the sheer emotion, yearning and melancholy, 2 guitar solos? Or more? JP Jones adding flavours…..and of course Mr Plant…..very well structured, archetypal Led Zeppelin.

Someone may have already pointed this out below - but Marco Minimann explains that they had the Chuck Berry Johnny B Goode guitar intro going at the beginning (which they later eliminated from the final track). The drum intro syncs up perfectly with that - which - as you said - begins on the "and" of three.

I'm a guitarist trying to teach myself drums rn, looking through the comments drummers pick WAY different Led Zep songs as their favorites. Guitarists never say Achillies Last Stand and honestly I've never heard one say Dazed and Confused though I don't know why since it's extremely guitar heavy. For myself, I go back and forth but the tops are always Black Dog, Communication Breakdown, Good times Bad times, and of course Rock and Roll

Awesome! Thank you. First 15 seconds to The Police "Spirits in the Material World" still throws me sometimes, until I either clap out or relax my mind and hear the kick on 2 and 4. Easy to get fooled and hear the kick on the "and" of 2 and 4.

Shesh thanks for this lesson Stephen, I had one of those days, idk if you have ever had one. I picked up my stick was ready to go, did my warmup and stretched and man I just felt frustrated, my shoulder ached so I couldn't relax, and I felt tense body wise, was beyond frustrating, tried to play and I couldn't un-tense, so I got beyond pissed just dropped the sticks and worked my forearms and walked away to cool off.
