Insomniac are lying about it because they hired a new facial actor in order to make Peter look closer to Tom Holland so that it would attract more casual MCU Spiderman fans to buy a copy of a game. This was definitely a decision that came down from the top executives. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a deal where Marvel would give Insomniac and Sony more funding if they changed Peters face accordingly.

I don't care about which one's lying actually. It doesn't matter if John do nothing, the point is, the face that they're using in the final product, the face that people are connected to, is his. So at least Insomniac needs to acknowledge that. Yuri did all the acting?, Cool!, Great!, I couldn't expect less, because he's the veteran actor, John is just a face model, of course he doesn't act much. But all those fuss is about his face, not how many his contribution beyond just a face model. I'm pretty sure Jordan doesn't do much either, so why does his contribution beyond face modelling matters? John's face sells more in this project, that's the point. If they used Jordan's face from the beginning, no one would bitch about this.

What actually happened: John isn’t lying. He put in however many months into doing facial capture and/or mo-cap he says he did. He has absolutely no reason to lie about something like that. It’s just that none of it was used, as James said. Salyers, Ooyung, and Linari also have gone on record saying that damn near all of their scenes were with Yuri. Like John, they have no reason to lie about something like that. Insomniac and John parted ways, either on a good or bad note, and James is doing a terrible job of damage controlling the situation. That’s it. That’s what happened. No conspiracy.

Dude that's how every video games are made nowadays. Do you know any face model from other games ? Probably not, cause their only job was to get their faces scaned and put on the mocap actor who is the real star of the game (that's why they have dots on their faces and a gopro like camera to film them during the shoot). Of course before they cast these models they do camera tests but they're not wearing any gear or whatever. And they only changed the face to match Yuri's expressions better which is accurate cause as much as I liked John, sometimes his eyes looked weird in cutscenes. With that said if you think they did him dirty, then by that logic every studio do dirty to their models. (Which they don't cause they are paid and get credits).

the thing is we literally dont care. Idc if John stole 20 dollars from each of the directors grandmothers. The point is that we prefer johns face, that's our spiderman and that is the best portrayal of spiderman (in any medium) we have seen, and they took it away from us because either 1. someone's feelings were hurt or 2. they wanted him to look like Tom Holland (the face-cap excuse is ridiculous). This has everything to do with how much they respect their fanbase's choice -- if the vast majority are blatantly telling you they want something and you ignore them then you are not building the game for them and you're building the game for you and your emotions. I think they are forgetting that they make these things to serve THE FANS. THE FANS should be the most important thing to them and they are ignoring us. John could have sent in a selfie and i wouldn't care--he was and will always be PS Spiderman and the attempt to remove him will stain the legacy of this game and the creators who worked tirelessly on it.

Just to clarify, Yuri did a number of the motion-capture acting too not just VA there are images of him on both Spider-Man and Miles Morales in a mo-cap suit they later bring John's facial animations and map it over Yuri's performance.

All John did was film reactions and facial expressions that they later mapped over Yuri's face.

"It's not about the face..." Bruh, come on now😂 This is all because they wanted a Tom Holland lookalike. At some point you have to ignore what a company is saying and believe what your own eyes are telling you. Insomniac is trying to create distance between the company and John Bubniak, because fans, rightly in my opinion, are disappointed that they made such a major change. So now they're subtly tearing him down. Now he didn't work as hard, so we shouldn't care much that they've replaced him. Now he didn't do as much. This is incompetence at a high level. Sony somehow didn't understand that changing the face of Peter would piss at least some fans off. Insomniac didn't get that dragging John Bubniak, even subtly, would piss those fans off further. The best way out of this is to bring his ass back for Spider-Man 2, as fans want. Yourself and other channels like yours who have a voice in this thing should work together and help make that happen. Organize letter writing campaigns, email campaigns. Urge your viewers to be consistent and (especially) respectful. Work together and something WILL happen.

Guys, we used to get games where the main character looked different in every single game. I understand the disappointment if you grew attached to that actors face, but the infighting is crazy. You can always play the ps4 version, but don't think for a second that anyone owes you input. People have gotten too comfortable thinking they run how things are made. If you're not a developer, you're not involved with development. Don't play the next title if you're so upset, show them with the loss of revenue.

What I assumed happened, was John was supposed to be in Spider-Man 2 however he may have asked for more of an incentive because they are using his face, which may have completely left a bad mark on insomniac, thus replacing him. I honestly think the reason why they changed Bubniak’s face isn’t the really what they said it was. I feel like he asked for more money and they said no. John Bubniak’s playing up how much he actually contributed. Yuri did the voice work. All of the cutscenes - minus the stunts - were captured by the actors voicing them, as they used the same performance capture technology as Naughty Dog’s games. For those who don’t know, performance capture has the voice actors record the lines as they perform the scene. Through the same technology, they are able to capture the actors faces as they talk. They will then map the character models over the mo-capped wireframes to get the final cutscene. Because Bubniak’s face is structured differently to Yuri’s, they probably had him do some scenes so they could use his face as a reference when they realised that this was causing an issue.

Tom holland is just in the MCU to take over iron man, he lost what Spider-Man stands for to me. He's a good superhero, just not a good spider--man

So if you make an adaptation based off an adaptation, you will miss the stuff the original adaptation missed then other stuff the new writer wants to leave out. Its like chinese whisperse where the story keeps changing and by the end what you get has absolutely nothing to do with the original story if you get what im getting at. Also i think MCU Spidey is pretty accurate yet different at the same time just becasue it doesnt have Unlce Ben or the power and responsibility saying be metioned every 10 mins doesnt mean its bad as we still see that stuff in hus actions like when ge choses to go after Vulture at the end of HC that was purely "power and responsibility" as Stark was no longer in the picture anymore. Even then just because he wants to impress Stark and join the Avengers doesnt mean he has forgotten what he learnt from Bens death thats still the reason he is Spider man in the first place. And MCU Spider man is looking like it he will be the next Iron man interms he will be one of the main 3 maybe even the face of the MCU if Marvel and Sony keep working together hes not literally being the next Iron man thats such a dumb argument why MCU Spider man is bad. Is MCU Spider man perfect? no but neither was Raimi or TASM.

Yeah I think Sony did what Sony does and that meddling with artists works. - They saw the success of the MCU films - They felt like the ps4 version of the game could’ve made more money$ if the game had a more recognizable face. - so for next gen they they went with someone more handsome and model looking and less like your friendly neighborhood kinda guy.

@Podcast Now, I doubt you'll see this, but I have a hypothetical question for you: What if, when Spider-Man is added to the Avengers Game, it is revealed that it is actually the same Spider-Man from the Insomniac game? And the face was changed so that he would better fit into the Avengers art style? And they're waiting for Spidey to drop first before they reveal the connection? I personally hate the idea that we lost a great face just to make Peter fit into a crappy game. I know it was said they were separate, but that was a while ago, and it wouldn't take much work (story wise) to put the two games in the same universe. PlayStation already managed to make Spidey an exclusive hero to their platform, so who's to say they didn't demand to make them connected as well?

You are confused on many levels. John Bubniak didn't do any scene acting, Yuri Lowenthal did (the mocap and facecap, being in the environment and interacting with other actors). Bubniak was just a face they used. John is also not detailing what exactly he did, but here's what face models usually do: for the face to be used they had to do facial expression tests, acting tests, talking tests and more, its not for using in game, its all for reference and for Peter to look real when they take Yuri's performance and apply it to Johns face. You have to clearly understand that in the end its the Yuri's face and mocap performance that is actually used for acting and John's face for the actual skin.

I think the dumbest thing about this face swap is that the whole point of the change was to find a face that better suited the voice... but if you hear John Bubniak speak in interviews he sounds WAY more like Yuri Lowenthal than the new guy does... so surely he’s actually a more accurate representation?

It’s not about him sounding like Yuri, it’s because Bubniak’s face is a different shape to Yuri’s - whereas Ben Jordan has such a strong resemblance that he looks like he could be Yuri’s son.

They need him to have a similarly structured face so that the performance capture doesn’t lose small things from Yuri’s performance. Bubniak’s face is so different to Yuri’s that they either lost those nuances, or it resulted in Bubniak’s face looking unnatural - presumably, this was more apparent on the Miles game due to it be developed for the new hardware, so Jordan was recast for that & then they had to go back to change Peter’s face in the original. Only reason it’s hard for you to explain is because you’re wrong.

It absolutely would've taken hours to get all of his facial expressions and *some* motion data to help better align with Yuri's. I don't think they used John's motion capture performances in the final product. But they used all of this motion data to align with Yuri's expressions to make it all flow better and appear more natural. I don't think anyone is lying here, it's a little bit of both and I think people are misinterpreting this and creating drama. And one of the biggest reasons for the face change is that the new model's face structure better aligns with Yuri's. And it does make sense especially if they were planning on recasting that model in the next game. I personally like Bubniak's face better, but there's no changing their decision, so we just have to learn to accept it. It is a company, they can do whatever they want, and if we don't like it then we just don't buy it. Which I probably won't buy the remastered version, but I sure as heck am buying the next full Spiderman game after Miles. Cuz i'd rather have a Spiderman game with a different face, than no Spiderman game at all.

John never wore a suit mocap suit. So. The statement that he didn't do much is correct.. He obviously wore head gear and dots, as pictures show, but this does nothing to disprove James' statements. Look at the capture devices they use on set compared to what John had to wear. John likely did reference shots in head gear for them to be able to understand how his face moves so they could find away to match it to Yuri's face and performance. Which is what is inherently the problem. John's face did not work in a way that they saw efficient enough to be acceptable for next-gen. IIRC, this led to them having to clean some of his animations up by hand via the Cubic Motion team that they outsourced some of their motion capture work to. Which is stated as much in Cubic Motion's own write up on their site. So. Yes. For them to say "We did not use any of your performance" is not off base, just because you DID reference shots does NOT mean that they were USED. This is only compounded upon by everyone writing off the penultimate cutscene of the remaster because the emotions are radically different. Which is actually kinda hilarious to me, because I've always had a problem with the fact that Peter looks more distraught about Otto being wrong than the fact that his Aunt is literally dying in front of him and he has the cure but can't use it in the PS4 version. Yuri's performance has always been what breaks me. That face did absolutely nothing for me and I'm used to this by now. I had to put up with Maguire and his dry ass performance for years.

Bro in any other game you look at behind the scenes if they have them, they scan the actors face and add in all the features and scans and stuff, then they put someone like Yuri into a black suit with the white ball thingies 😂and they use Yuris facial expressions. Ah Spider-man the only role where whoever plays him will eventually be replaced! I've said it again and again ask anyone who's a major comic book Spider-man fan if there being honest most will say the MCU gets some things right about Spider-man but whoevers writing Spider-man movies right now is missing the core aspects of Spider-man I could list a long list of problems with MCU Spider-man like the fact that in homecoming Iron Man's like bad Spidey don't go after the Vulture like Spider-mans weak or something he would destroy Iron Man in a fight for one and for two it's all good for Spider-man to go after the Vulture when he's stealing from Tony Stark which Spider-man made a huge mistake that being trying to take the Vulture in the air endangering hundreds-thousands of people on Coney Island which was all his fault he could let the Vulture take the box then went after him but nope he almost gets a bunch of people killed not the Vulture!! But does he ever get any trouble for which is the whole point of spider-man living with his mistakes ??? Nope he's awarded the Iron Spider suit -_- not to mention Tony Stark being the worst mentor spider-man could ever have! He don't even care about Peter till he dies and when Peters dying he pretty much is like toughen up you weakling lol.. maybe if Peter learned to respect Iron Man without looking up to him it might be okay! But then there's the fact that uncle Ben can't be much older then Spider-man by the age of Aunt May which how can someone 15 years older then you know much more?? And we never got to see Peter grow as early Spider-man and not even talking about origin story I'm talking bout him struggling to become Spider-man even almost having someone die on him! And the worth thing Iron Man did was lie to a 15 year old saying Captain America is going crazy then bringing him to a dangerous fight but only when he says but Peter follows him like a lost puppy saying he can't be spider-man without a high tech suit! Which Iron Man making Spider-mans look for him is stupid too! Venom was a closer movie to the source material! Plus they mixed Tom's Spider-man with miles like how his best friends Ned..

For 1 why are you bringing MCU Spidey into this, this is about Insomniacs game version which has nothing to do with the MCU. Seems youre still upset Maguire got recast 13 yrs ago. 2. I think you missed huge chunks in HC. Yes Stark tells Peter to not go after Vulture but its becasue he doesnt want Peter to get hurt and he tries to over protect him, then Peter still goes after the Vulture regardless so i dont get the issue with that. Also, Peter does feel bad about the ferry thing and he learns from it that he has to be better, yes nobody died but Peter is still aware that he could have gotten some one killed Stark doesnt reward Peter for the ferry thing he takes everything away and ditches him. So when Peter goes after the Vulture at the end of the film, its not about proving anything to Stark coz Peter believes he has screwed that up and hes not getting a second chance. Its about 'power and responsibility', he ditches his date who is his long time crush who he he has only just managed to ask out to go after the Vulture becasue of "power and responsibility". This then casues Peter to lose out becasue of Spider man as he now has lost any chance of Liz being his gf and it seems to have ruined their friendship which is very Spider man where being Spider man causes Peter to lose. That scene where he is trapped under the rubble was about Peter proving to HIMSELF not Stark that he is Spider man and is capable of taking down people like the Vulture with or without the fancy suits. Stark only offers him the Iron Spider suit and a place on the avengers AFTER he had caught the Vulture and Peter turns it down to keep looking out for the everyday people (which is very Spider man) eventhough that is what he wanted through out the film. MCU Spider man does a lot and gets a lot right from the books that most give it credit for. Just because it doesnt slap you round the face with Uncle Ben or the power and responsibility speech ebery 10 mins doesnt mean its bad or "inaccuracte" as we still see Ben and power and responsbility in his actions. Is it perfect? no but neither was Raimi or TASM.

Only pictures and videos I've seen of the mocap sessions it's stuntmen for action sequences or Yuri Lowenthal acting alongside the other actors. Even in pictures Nadji Jeter posted it's Yuri. So if John Bubniak can show some picture or video evidence to make the case that he was acting alongside everyone else then he has an argument, but he hasn't. Until then, the logical thing to do is draw our conclusions based on the evidence we actually have rather than taking any specific person's word for it or listen to hearsay.

I'm sorry but the new face just works. As a huge fan of Spider-Man, I played the game not to look at a face, I played it for Spider-Man/Peter Parker. There has not been a definitive Peter Parker look at all. They could change the PS Spider-Man face so much and it still wouldn't change my love for the game because I fell in love with the character of Peter Parker and Spider-Man. His face doesn't define his character. Now let's be real here, the remaster doesn't do Ben justice, it does Bubniak justice due to that game being centered around Budniak's face. Due to the time constraints and deadlines especially with COVID, it's no surprise the remastered was putting Ben's face on old animations that work for Budniak's face. However, it works so well in Miles and if I'm going to be honest, it just screams Spider-Man to me and honestly, given more time to polish and perfect with the new next gen hardware and features that they NOW have availability to, the face will only get better. People need to understand that Budniak's face does work but only on PS4 cause they were using old PS4 hardware from the beginning of their game's production in 2014. Hardware has improved and become more complex to the point where some models would not work as well as they previously did. I see why Insomniac did the change and they proved it pretty well in Miles and I just want people to honestly give it a full chance in Spider-Man 2. If you are a true Spider-Man fan, you will give it a chance. Spider-Man 2 will do the face more justice and I promise you, Insomniac will not disappoint. I think this drama over a face is way too overdramatic. We all love Spider-Man, let's enjoy it. If people respond with reasons why they shouldn't have changed the face, I honestly don't care because I heard it millions of times already and just need to get over it. I get it. Passion for the game that you grew to love. I have that too but it's just a face. You fell in love with the character. If Ben was the face used from the beginning, no one would have complained. You guys fell in love with the character, not the face.
