This song is something else for me. Stumbled across the OG version while in college 16 years ago when I was lost and trying to figure out life. Listened to it constantly and would always drift away on the waves of the song to a place of calmness and peace. Through all those years and hearing the evolution of the song; I am always taken back to that place - the journey there has changed meaning over time, but the destination is always inner calm. Thank you for sharing.

Same here. This was something I listened to when I had my heart broken all those years ago and ultimatley leading up to finding my wife. Sadly, last month we called it quits - she had met another man and I am back on my own. And back to this song. Hope it can heal me again.

Truly a badass master. I respect and value his music more as I get older, which is something to be said.

one of the things i love the most about his renditions of Ocean is that he never plays it the same way as he did the previous time. That shows that it owns a special place inside his body and mind,

It's because he has worked on this piece more or less his entire musical life, starting when he lived on the street busking. It changes tune and feeling as his life changes flavor. It's truly a remarkable piece of music!

A comment on the original version of this song states this song as "a 12 minute guitar song where a man tells his entire life story without words"; This version brings in a new perspective of that man's life with all the wisdom experience, ups & downs, joy and sadness and growth that came 16 years since the Ocean OG. Thank you John Butler for sharing your gift to the world!

Kind of similar. It might be my favourite song of all time (definitely top5), but I can't listen to it daily or weekly or I'm afraid it might diminish its meaning to me. I like to revisit it every once in a while, close my eyes and just reflect on my life and imagine my future. Just like I wouldn't want to watch my favourite movie too often, I want to savor a song like this and not overplay it. Like you said, it's not just a song, it's a whole experience and a journey.

It's ironic that this is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written & most folks have never been blessed to hear it! The original has been my fav for 14 yrs, but this version is so nuanced & wise. Magic 🫶

This song make me think about my grandfather. He played guitar for 50+ years and now he has Parkinson and can't play anymore. He used to be up every morning picking little tunes on his guitar similar to some of the rythyms and picking we hear in this. It moves me to tears constantly. I absolutely love this. Thank you for posting this. And thank you John Butler for being an amazing musician.

Have you played this for him? I bet he'd love to hear this and Joe Satriani "surfin with the aliens" Eric Johnson, and of course Steve Vai. Follow it up with Little Wing (Stevie Ray Vaughan version) and you'll probably make his day many times over.... just guessing; these are my favorites
