I truly cant get enough of John Butler! He is in my eyes the most talented musician to come during my being. Im 43 so i havent seen or heard it ALL but, much more than most. So much music is generated from those 3 men its almost stunning. John solo is about unbeatable period. Crazy when you like all kinnds of styles of music after all life wouldnt exist without it.

This guy is incredible. There is no comparing this guy to Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, and even DMB. This guy is in a different class musically. His compositions are mind boggling. Just listen to his song "Ocean" and then ask yourself if any of the before mentioned could play guitar like that. His guitar skills are far beyond any of those guys.

Playing a standard bass takes a lot of different techniques and a good sense of timing. Playing on a fretless takes practice to get the intonation right but doing it on a double bass and pulling out a funk inspired solo is next level musicianship. There is a live version of Pickapart with a section using slap, on a double bass.

New band, new sound I guess. JB seems to like to change the JBT line-up every so often , why im not sure, but i think this (video above) has been the best line up of JBT

100% this was the best line up. It was a scandal at the time when John dropped Michael Barker (drummer) and Shannon Birchall (bassist). Shannon in particular holds huge respect in the Australian music community. He arranged plenty of the live JBT shows and helped write many of the songs. So when Shannon and Michael naturally asked for a greater slice of the revenue pie, John - wouldn't you believe it - decided to embark on a new "artistic" direction and part ways with Michael and Shannon. John lost a lot of credibility because of this.

It is a double bass otherwise known as an upright bass. Contrebass is also correct and is the more widely accepted 'actual' name in classical circles. The Cello is normally a lot smaller and played with a bow.
