John Cage - String Quartet in Four Parts

I like how this version doesn't try to smooth out the outbursts, or mute the non-functional dissonances. It brings out a toughness and vinegary quality that aren't always associated with this piece, which can sometimes be played placidly, like Cage's quartets of the 70s.

Do my ears deceive me? The vln parts here are being played by clarinets? How Cage-ian !

The 1st at least... a bit of a trompe l'oreille, sometimes it sounds like only one clar, sometimes two... might be the string harmonics, Spooky.
