“What college basketball needs is mentors.” True words. My criteria would be something along the lines of: would you want your son or daughter to have this coach as their faculty advisor? If the goal is to put people in the NBA, fine, but I’d much prefer someone who could help mold young men, even those at the end of the bench, into responsible adults.
@mcpbaa30007 ай бұрын
The day of coaches as mentors is over. Are you not paying attention? Most of these guys play for 3 teams in four years. And factor in all the NIL money. Mentor? They don't need no stinking mentor!
@a.s.clifton5447 ай бұрын
@@mcpbaa3000 Yeah, I’m paying attention (to what has become of college sports) and that is why I pay little attention (to results). Hell, even a coach who could have been an icon for curmudgeons like me, Joe Paterno, had horrendous crimes he helped cover up. Just another reason I should be put out to pasture, Woody Hayes punching a kid during a bowl game. Maybe the good old days were no better, but they sure seemed to be.

“Arkansas’s NIL will be unprecedented”. Think $5m-$7m to be used yearly but they are willing to stretch up to $10 million a year for the right players. You are going to hear this more and more from ”Insiders” but also, the PTB is willing to go up to $25 million a year if all incentives are maxed out for Staff/Players/Cal, etc. Nobody else, even Kentucky, is spending this level of money on college basketball, no one. Also, Arkansas will definitely be moving forward with renovations at Bud Walton with the momentum of the Cal hiring, people/fans don’t understand the significance of what’s happening… For the first time since Frank, all the big money from Little Rock to Fayetteville are all working together. I’ve been told though, it’s obvious - the Football Program will be getting the same level of love to get players, support coaches they need, think closer to Alabama though not to their level of commitment- yet. One more thing… Donavan is likely UK’s next Coach, if not then I expect Drew to take it and you will see Kentucky recommit resources closer to Arkansas though likely not to that extent.

FIRE MITCH BARNHART Calipari was a horrible coach, always was. His number 1 priority was never to win championships. He focused so much on prioritizing a players NBA stock that it effected player minutes and even starting positions. There were so visibly poor examples of his abilities. Words spoken in post game interviews confirmed things we always feared were true. What's worse is he was able to sell his boss on his inept coaching abilities when what matters are wins and championships. Even in the end when so few wanted Calipari there and even Calipari was ready to go, Mitch still didn't have the fortitude to make a proper decision. Yes Calipari was a problem but the real issue was the boss and thus we need to call for a resignation by Mitch or call for his firing.
