I love this movie like very few. In a perfect world and with the perfect response, it would've been the start for a fantastic space opera trilogy. But instead of lamenting what never was, I'm happy just to have this movie exist, and watch it over and over again. Thanks from the bottom of my heart to Andrew Stanton, Michael Giacchino, Taylor Kitsch and everyone involved in making such a special, heartfelt movie.

Great piece of art! Jeez, I first read "A Princess of Mars" when I was only ten years old. My dad had a fabulous SF collection, including nearly all of Burroughs books. I really liked "The Moon Maid" and the Carson of Venus stories too. The Tarzan stories enthralled me as well, especially after he becomes Lord Greystoke and starts learning how to live in two worlds without losing himself to either extreme. But the Barsoom books were by far my favorites. Like Favreau said, they're full of adventure and hair-raising escapes and incredible heroism--not to mention some of the most exotic but perfectly comprehensible aliens ever imagined. Lynn Collins, who played Dejah Thoris, said that she saw Dejah as being very much the "damsel in distress," but I NEVER saw her that way at all. She could swing a sword as well as any man and wielded a lot more political power. She was a scientist, a well-trained academic and technician and when I saw the movie, I thought, "Yes, that's HER! That's Dejah Thoris, a Princess of Helium!" Ya wanna know just how much those books changed me? I learned foil, epee, and saber because of those books and I am DAMNED good with all three. I won every one of my bouts in college. Every. Single. Bout. The instructor told me that if she'd had me as a student perhaps ten years earlier, she could have turned me into an Olympian. I don't know about that but I still have my foil and it no longer has a safety tip because what use is a sword that cannot draw blood? I learned a lot from those old books, things like honor and loyalty, nobility and sacrifice, and the right of a hero to die where and when he or she chooses. May the ghost of ERB bless Andrew Stanton and his whole production team for preserving those values in his magnificent little movie. He got it RIGHT and I humbly bend a knee in his direction. "Kaor, Andrew. Helium is proud to accept."

Haven’t seen the movie yet. I just finished the second book. Just wanted a little background. Such an amazing series. To think such imagination was let loose in 1912!

@9:10 it suffered he said! It suffered. This is the crazy thing about anyone who wants to adapt any long form story told over a larger portion of time and turning it into a 2 hour movie... this might be the best example of what would make a good disney plus series. I think movies are good introductions. For example everyone hated john carter who liked the books. However I didny read the books I loved the movie then read the books. But the movie isnt the real thing the way the books are. That's only because you get to spend more time.

Wonderful video. This should've been the trailer for the movie, and they should've used the original name Princess of Mars.

That's just one of the bullshit blunders they made with this trash heap of a movie. John Carter looks down on this with disappointment

Favreau should have directed it. It would have been waaaaaay better. Stanton was the wrong guy.
@Geronimo_Jehoshaphat5 жыл бұрын
Waaaay better? Doubtful. Stanton did an excellent job. But Favreau would have been more efficient for schedule and budget. Because Stanton had no experience commanding a live action production, which caused the movie to cost more than what is on screen.

They should have picked a different actor to play John Carter. that and the script needed a lot more work.

@@orindae1032 Examples of improvements for lead and script then?

For what it's worth I would not have been compelled to read Burroughs if the movie wasn't as good as I thought it was.

Stanton sucked and should delivered to a Thark horde, with eggshells stuffed in his pockets.....
