Isn't Ade just fantastic in this? He lends his own personality to a classic sketch and makes it his own. Wonderful to see the generations come together in such a magnificent way

He really does steal the show on this, but certainly does suit the personality of a creative painter with a bit of imagination. It's too calm in the other versions but Ade's delivery is brilliant. The surprised in disbelief "ONE?!" and both quite aggravated at eachothers behaviour. Just brilliant

I now want a velvet painting of a penultimate supper with 28 disciples, 3 Christs, a kangaroo, prominent jellies, a full waitstaff compliment, a conjuror, and of course a mariachi band with horns and guitarrón. THAT is going up in the garage when I do.

Even though this is a classic Monty Python sketch (with Ade filling in for Eric), this seems like something the Vyvyan character from "The Young Ones" would actually do.

Probably because he's using his Vyvyan voice in this.

So random at 02.09hrs was watching a completely un-related video of a friend singing on facebook, then this popped up. Hilarious and then ended up buying (as you often do at 02.15hrs) The Secret Policeman's Ball The Complete edition of 5 dvd's for £5.66.

I love Ade, he's hilarious, but this sketch isn't as funny without Eric Idle!
@kbhprinsesse3 жыл бұрын
Not on the level of the original version. Edmondson is too hysterical - it works better if the painter keeps relatively calm as a contrast to the pope's fury.
@kenlieck77563 жыл бұрын
My God, he's awful in this! A shame, as I would've expected him to somehow make it work with a rabid new twist. Like the Harry Enfield, Alan Rickman, Eddie Izzard, Vic Reeves version of the 4 Yorkshiremen sketch (kzbin.info/www/bejne/bX3FXmWMlq-Mhtk ) They totally wrecked it beyond recognition, and yet somehow made it far more hilarious than any of the increasingly flat Python retreads over the years.

IT WORKS MATE, THE PASSIONATE RAGING PAINTER BALANCES OUT THE CALM BUT POWERFUL POPE I think John was lacking a little to begin as Ade was already on a higher energy at first but John picked up the disgruntled Basil attitude

Idle did it better

People will always compare, and Edmondson's performance doesn't hold a candle to the original. Way too manic. The Pope is supposed to get all apoplectic; Michelangelo's supposed to be almost subdued to counterbalance the anger.
