Back in 2000, I and a bunch of friends visited France. We got to see the Bayeux Tapestry. There is a panel depicting the crossing of the English Channel by the Norman troops where the horses are getting off the boat.. (you can actually see this in the Wiki entry for the tapestry).. the horses are smiling apparently happy to be getting off the boat.. my buddy seeing that in real life commented "that's where Monty Python comes from" ... the English depicting the horses smiling..

The Python show ended in 1974, and that was the same year it came to America. Critics and producers didn't think that type of comedy would be popular, there. To their surprise, the show took off in America, like a rocket.

I have epilepsy. My sister read a news report in a paper about a woman who chomped her husband’s doodle because she had a seizure whilst her mouth was….occupied. The husband used a frying pan to hit his wife in a desperate attempt to get her gnashers from around his twig. My sister sent my husband a frying pan in case it happened to him. Lol. You have to laugh at the things that you can’t change. Laughter is what keeps one from being a victim to their disabilities. Of course, people want to be laughed with, not at. But, I’ve heard epilepsy jokes that crack me up. 😂❤

Monty Python and the Holy Grail was a movie all my friends and I watched over and over and over and over. I remember once we were riding dirt bikes. My best friend hit a rock hidden in the grass and tumbled head over heels two or three times. I raced to where he was laying, fearing the worst. I threw my motorcycle on the ground and ran to his side. He sat up and was holding his obviously broken arm, staring at it, with tears starting to run down his cheeks. I said, "Oh look, it's only flesh wound". He looked up at me with grass in his hair and dirt on his face and busted out laughing.

I believe the original ceremony was 5 hours long as in the late Queen's coronation. King Charles's coronation was just over two hours. However part of the service is actually religious as the King is anointed and the bible was used and he vowed to uphold the Christian faith. I think the UK should be proud as a lot of hard work went into that day and the days before and after.

Yeah but that “yes” only got them so far until the BBC put them in the “bin” never to be heard from again, until Ron Devillier at PBS stumbled upon them and brought them to the US and that’s when they really became famous/known. Ron owned the distribution rights until his recent retirement. He’s a super funny man with a good eye for comedy. I’ve known him all my life.

Absolute legend! I grew up on Monty Python, the spin-offs and movies. I agree with John, The Life of Brian is my favourite too. It's amusing that the church was very upset even though it wasn't actually about Jesus! I watch it at least once a year to keep me sane. Looking forward to John's GBNews show.

Yeah absolutely. I love the guy, he's got a hilarious sense of humor! Monthy Python, Fawlty Towers, and their films were very popular here in Holland in the '70/80s and after, everybody loved them..! (the ones who could handle it, cause Holland still had a lot of strict Christians) And thank God we had VPRO tv on sunday, they were very controversial and left wing. Here on YT you can still watch some great music, human interest docs, or humor from VPRO. Like 'Stranger In A Strange Land' with Nick Cave and bandmembers in Berlin in '87 where they lived at the time. Or VPRO's 'Onrust' which was about fresh music scenes from that period, enz. ☮💥

There are plenty of traditional celebrations around the world that look absurd to outsiders, that is no reason to belittle them. Don't get me wrong - I'm 1/4 German myself, so I feel a bond of brotherhood with my King. I don't just mock UK royals, although they put more effort into earning it than I thought humanly possible. I gleefully mock NSW politicians, run by people on both sides of politics, who are what you'd imagine if AI had been upgrading convict criminality for 200 years. US Democrats - Like Tammany Hall's became a registered church under US tax law. Would I mock a ceremony that wasn't shoved down my eyeballs and earholes 24/6 like I gave a toss? Not if I had to go to the trouble of seeking it out. Would I mock a ceremony that wasn't Full of arrogant, overblown, Anglican self-importance? It depends if there were anything else equally asinine to mock about it. Once my ostentatious consumption sister wined that the jacuzzi in the exec suite of their hotel had been ripping off threads of gold from her gold lame bikini. Writing the script and starring in her own comedy sketch, I went to town on that one. She's an Anglican too so maybe there's something in the Holy water that inclines one toward comedic couture.

I grew up watching Monty Python. I remember laughing so hard I was crying. I love that they didn't care if they offended anyone. I see so much violence in movies today, at least in the U.S., but as long as it doesn't offend anyone it's in the theatres. I wish we could bring back the silliness and humor of Monty Python. Favorite movie is, "The Meaning of Life," and I can't pick a favorite sketch, there are just too many. Thank you for making an eight year laugh.

It's my resolute, uncompromising position that everything woke has to be expunged. I could definitely see echoes of Monty python in the Coronation, but at the same time in a world gone completely nuts there is something incredibly reassuring about seeing the continuation of tradition and people coming together in patriotism and respect for the monarchy. I’m not a fan of the cynical, mocking left and they seem to get nastier with every year that goes by, so if I’m going to choose between them and the nice friendly people cheering on King Charles, I’ll choose the nice, friendly people any day.

It did remind me of a Monty Python skit ! The Quest for the Holy Grail came to mind !The funniest part was when Princess Anne’s hat blocked Harry’s view! That was right out of Monty Python 🐍! The interviews of all the “Royal Experts “ were hilarious also ! I can see Cleese doing a skit on the Coronation and events leading up to it ! Miss the Queen though! She was a symbol of grace and beauty! This is from a former colony resident,US whose ancestors fought in the American Revolution and French and Indian Wars !

There's a good analysis of Holy Grail on KZbin by a guy named Rob Ager, basically saying the whole point of the film is to make fun of the modern British royalty, the absurdity of knighthoods etc. Certainly knighthoods seemed a bit silly after Jimmy Savile was given one. As embarrassing as Harry is, I would say Charlie's longtime friendship with the monster Jimmy Savile is somewhat more embarrassing... somewhat of a darker, sadder joke.

@@robert-trading-as-Bob69 I know Mercury studied classical music, and May and some others possibly also. Queen's music was unique and seismic, part of that is the unique weaving in of classical stuff. The only reason I struggle with Bohemian Rhapsody - admittedly a masterpiece - is that i detest romantic music, and Mercury loved it. Were I a producer, I'd back Queen. They were golden for millions of people from the get go, even if not for me personally.

I like the fact that we have something oldfashioned and magical from the past, that doesn't change, that is beautiful, with beautifully dressed people, beautiful music, breathtaking...it's a show or a musical or theater, call it what you like, but it connects people in a happy, nice way and at that moment when it starts we can stop thinking about the cruel,sick,evil world we are living in. Exactly like football, people take it so serious when in fact it's just adults chasing a ball...But we need spectacular beautiful,magical things in our lifes, as well as football or icehockey and song-contests and other kind of amusement. And a coronation comes once or twice in everyones lifetime while football comes continuously...

I will never get tired of watching John Cleese interviews, it lifts my day, also I'm a Brian, and so is my wife, we even spliced bits from Monty Python movies into our wedding vows, the looks on some of the guests faces was priceless.

Yes, I remember John Clesse's role in developing the covid vaccine that saved millions of lives very well - among the best of humanity indeed - or is he just an outdated comedian and mediocre writer who should put himself out to grass and keep his superficial self-serving opinions to himself?
