" Why do you believe in a god? " Why is this such a difficult question for theists? You'd think this would be among the easiest questions a believer could possibly answer. I find it mind boggling that someone could be dedicate their entire life to a particular idea yet not be able to give a single reason why.
@borthwrenblanston6632
@borthwrenblanston6632 2 жыл бұрын
" Why do you believe in a god? " >>> Glad you asked. I'm the correct person to answer. We "KNOW" and "UNDERSTAND" IN REAL TIME what we actually observe. Physics proves the decay of all matter. All matter/life in the universe (including any multiverse) is contiguous/under the same laws/LOSING INFORMATION/decaying in disorder and goes only in one direction: bad to worse. We can use the human being as an example. Over time, we don't evolve or remain neutral; we LOSE our youthful energy, we LOSE our 20/20 vision & some or all of our hearing. we LOSE our health all the way to our end (heat death). NEVER IS THERE ANY NEW INFORMATION. In every moment of our life, we don’t gain information, but we decay/experience a relentless loss of INFORMATION and we are DYING, as part of FINITE NATURE (time/space/matter/energy). The truth (God, Creation, The Bible) doesn't fail; we fail. The flesh is total failure. We fail/sin and we need a savior, because sin = death = absence of God: "He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together." - Colossians 1:17 NOTE: Without God, you have nothing holding EVERYTHING together. Proof of God is easy. Humans, chickens & horses have had the same anatomy for 10,000 yrs. There’s not going to be SUDDEN NEW ANATOMY (evolution) appear before your eyes. There's no such thing as NEW INFORMATION (e.g. big bang, abiogenesis, mistakes (mutations) gaining in complexity/new information, star formation, evolution). That’s why NONE of it has ever been observed or proved to be possible. That means there’s no such thing as “natural processes” adding NEW INFORMATION. EVERYTHING is dying, therefore our cause has to be a NON-DYING, INFINITE, SUPERNATURAL entity (God). There’s no other option. And God takes credit for creation (finite time/space/matter/energy) in the very first verse of the Bible (see below). It’d be cause to pause, if atheists had a RATIONAL/POSSIBLE, step-by-step atheist explanation for reality, but they don’t. That’s because God is real. “In the beginning (time), God created the heavens (space) & the earth (matter/energy).” - Genesis 1:1 SUMMARY: God is real. GENESIS is true. God created all matter with a set amount of INFORMATION & since the curse of Adam, that INFORMATION does nothing but decay. We have TEMPORARY free will for +/- 70 yrs to either accept the savior or choose hell. Some say that God can't be proved, but God is proved by what we observe: Jesus loves you dearly & has shown you this love by bringing you from non-existence & giving you “the gift of life.” And did you say “thank you?” No. He also removed your doom via the sin of Adam by the suffering on the cross for you. And did you say “thank you?” No. He’s also “prepared a place for you in Heaven” if you’ll only return his love that’s already given you. And did you say “thank you?” No. Again, it’s the “love” of Jesus for people is what attracts them to Christianity. Your move, Chief.

John cannot fathom how an intelligent person can be convinced of a lie. The answer is that everyone can become smarter. If you learn something new, you become smarter. If you re-evaluate something you thought was true on find out the reasons why it's true or why it's false, you're now smarter. If you learn to use your reason better, you become smarter. John seems to be lacking this basic knowledge.
@stevelloyd5785
@stevelloyd5785 2 жыл бұрын
No, if you learn something new, you just know something you previuosly didn't. You might be able to use that knowledge to further understand something, or undertake some work or research etc. But you aren't any smarter. You may decide to do things a 'smarter' way. Your basic intellectual level won't really change. Other than a child growing up and learning, maturing though.
@TheDahaka1
@TheDahaka1 2 жыл бұрын
@@stevelloyd5785 That's just a matter of what you mean with "being smart". Becoming able to do things in a smarter way to me means becoming smarter, while you consider it the potential of the mind in a more abstract way. Baseline is, you can be the smartest person on the planet on a subject and a moron in another until learn more about it, becoming then smarter over all. Or with your definition you can be smart enough to learn a smarter way to do things, or you lack that potential because you're not smart enough. Once we agree on a definition, we can talk, but don't impose your definition on what I said. You understood what I said and that's what's important.

As we draw the first and last of the Word into its Whole middle measure for a Whole halved once squared twice to the right for its: Time 12-3-6 Time, times 12x-3-6 Time, times and half a time 1/2x-3-6 Additional elements from the table: 12 Magnesium 3 Lithium 6 Carbon 1 Hydrogen One clock wise cycle out of many observed and measured from drawing the Words Whole understanding together. It requires a Sacrifice, that being the removal of the argued value from the Word, the Deity erased for the Whole measure. I also thought about the English connection that seems to limit its Holy age until I measured further. The Word GOD is Holy: Life is a Whole held by a short line and up by a long line. Truth is a long line crossed by a short line. Way is a long line toward a Whole image. Those three pictures come from Egyptian Hieroglyphs. While the time and periodic element measure might seem imaginary its done by drawing the Word GOD together, as it gives something to objectively measure together. We all can observe the Words O measure, as it belongs to the Holy Word. Of course we could measure others, but they don't have a Whole middle way to take together. It isn't my Word or design. I come with no evidence but the word GOD to observe. I make no subjective magical claims. The motivation is for the sides to measure together, not idolatry. And No. I don't think it's insane to measure GOD together without its argument. Isn't that sacrifice necessary, being in the way of agreement?

Modern humans have been around for... maybe 200k years. We have only had some kind of rational explanation for our experience for about .1% of that time. Additionally our coherence as a society depends on some proportion of our society being followers. Imagine a society where everyone was trying to assert their own ideas instead of going with the flow. Our collective mind has evolved to accept irrational group think because before science, it served a function. We can't expect society to suddenly snap forward, there is a momentum to overcome. To me the caller seemed genuinely confused, or stoned..., but the bullheadedness and confusion I hear from callers on this show doesn't surprise me. For the above reasons I think it's built into many of us. I appreciate the compassion and politeness in which this caller was handled. Edit: Atheist for 20+ years

Exactly my view. Unfortunately I don't see what we're doing to change the collective mindset going forward. With a concerted effort, would take generations; at the rate we're going, it will never change - we remain hostages of that absolecent mindset.

It's not surprising that people that have believed this stuff all their lives, been told over and over, to believe no matter what, because your soul is at stake. Fear! That emotion is the main reason people will go to their grave believing in this nonsense. When it's always shoved right in their face everyday that there is no way a God, that they call wonderful, amazing, superior, and we should fear him. Would do anything such as burning the people who literally did everything! It's not moral, nor does it make any sense. Their entire logic behind their beliefs are so backwards and ridiculous. And they are so scared of death and hell, that they won't see the obvious. It's scary, but fascinating. Guy wants to find truth. Then all he has to do is rid himself of the continuous bias of a belief that was imprinted in his mind. Then when they see that the reality is there, that their whole life was waisted, and now what!? These would be the people that scare me. Because they could be the people that say "Fuck this! I've been lied to all my life, and the people that indoctrinated me, they don't have to suffer the consequences, so I'm going to keep the world from being happy and relieved that hell isn't a fear now."
@qwadratix
@qwadratix 2 жыл бұрын
Truth is, they DON'T believe it. They are desperately trying to convince themselves that it's true and it all makes perfect sense because the alternative is unthinkable. They literally dare not have that thought. The sad thing is that if they did, they'd suddenly find themselves free of the fear. It's that childhood fear of the darkness thing. When you finally dare to face it you see there's nothing there.

13:10 To go with Matt's legal analogy (quote: "it's the difference between being convinced a defendant is innocent and not being convinced they're guilty, and so we vote not guilty") the most accurate verdict on God's existence would be that _third_ option which Scottish courts have, i.e. not proven. "God not proven" pretty much sums up my position as an atheist, anyway.
@Ben-no4lz
@Ben-no4lz Жыл бұрын
That wouldn’t work though - as The Not Proven verdict implies that the jury BELIEVED the accused to be guilty but did not think the prosecution made their case beyond reasonable doubt. So that would mean you BELIEVE god exists but that it hasn’t been proven….Which would make you an Agnostic Theist.

Seems like many theists have a 'mental block' when questioning their Religious god belief. Years of Church conditioning and re-enforcement in childhood is probably what makes it so hard for many still to break out of it. Perhaps maybe that is what the caller John was trying to ask as to how Matt no longer believed. Reason or no reason may not have been enough as an explanation for the caller. IF this is what John was trying to get at, it doesn't help when he was being dishonest and being slightly condescending. The good news however, Church attendants regardless of the pandemic we had, continues to shrink so that aspect of Religious re-enforcement is definitely lessening.
