+Nicolas Correa If my ears do not deceive me, he is using major triads in whole step intervals

+João Pedro Fleury I totally agree with that. It sounds different because of the non-diatonic character of moving major triads. If you see it from the voice leading, you move all chord tones in perfect 2nds. C-E-G to D F# A etc. Sounds amazing. I think quartal harmony chords could sound great in the intro, also diminished triads. In fact, the harmony of the song is II-V-I in minor related, with b9b13 tension on the V-Chord, which refers to the 5th mode of harmonic minor HM5, also known as mixolydian b9 b13. The two chord of the minor II V I is a halfdiminished (m7b5) chord, so you can use diminished lines over it, while improvising -> that leads me to the idea of using some diminished sounds in the intro.

+Nico Pitzer This song's harmony is a fairly common form of the minor blues, that is, i- iv - i - subV - V - i, or some variation. Apart from the options you have cited, one could also use a series of other scales in the dominant chord: whole tone and half-whole diminished produce really interesting sounds. Scott Henderson has really nice ideas when comes to exploring the triads that exist within this (the half whole diminished) scale. And, of course, as you mentioned, it is also possible to use the minor chords diminished scales to achieve very interesting outside flavors. In addition, there is also the good old superlocrian or altered scale to resolve the V chord, and the melodic minor for the i chord, which coltrane used a lot, and the 6th mode of the melodic minor for the ii7b5. Cheers mate!

+Nico Pitzer If you enjoy crazy harmonic changes and very well performed improvisation, check some songs by Hermeto Pascoal, in case you do not already know him.
