I wonder what Gershwin would have thought of this stunning eleven minute journey through and around his original song. The teamwork and skill of these musicians is amazing and together they create pure joy. It is the best modern jazz version of Summertime I have ever heard. Not a musical cliche in sight and the original is still there throughout. What a treat. Thank you so much, gentlemen.

I loved the original of this track when I was a kid in short trousers but I never imagined it could be made to sound this funky - the total class of this track restores my faith in humanity - we might just make it as a species yet.

These are definitely some of the best players on the planet, all members are top CATS, and John V. Sr. Is the best Sax player I’ve ever heard in my life! Way better than Coltrane and other “Giants.” He’s got guts, soul, and Mr. Johnny V SR - I never heard of you or your Uncle but am going hunting for your music because as a Sax player, you are seriously inspiring! Keep Groovin’!

There have been some funky versions of this going back to the 60's (George Benson's original take for example) but yeah, this one is very different. I got the impression from the start that the drummer wasn't that familiar with it - in a way, that probably helped because he just made something up, rather than copying anything that's been done before. That gave the tune a unique feel.

Just discovered this video a couple of weeks ago. I must have listened to it at least two dozen times. So far only 274k views in 3.5 years? It deserves 274 million! For a "jam session" recording, it seems so tightly put together, it reminds me in some ways of the late 1950s and early 1960s Horace Silver Quintet in terms of cohesiveness of the band members. Well done there!

Good Job guys, Shesus, must be FAMILY, that interplay on the verse before the solos, between sax and trumpet was Masterly, WOW, the uncles paradiddles unsurpassed would have made louis blush, the sax, especially wailing bending milking those 9ths etc nice counter point , gtrists 1st solo preferred, little more Dorian the 2nd solo as a Pink Floyd copy didnt quite make it for me, though altogether a very nice combo and version Thank You

Oh-the tenor player is the bass player’s Dad. That’s why he’s telling him what to do. 😂 With that bass riff I thought it was Chameleon for a second. Obviously you could do Summertime a thousand ways but this groove is fun and it all works. I’m amazed that people can learn the changes that fast btw.
