But doesn't this just prove that the 60s were better for jazz?

Other than this album, what else makes it such a great time for jazz fans?

Tremendous Sax living in 2019 with the Internet means you get to experience every jazz recording in existence. Sure it would have been cool to see these legends live but id still prefer 2019

I am so glad that John Coltranes son found this recording. A lost gem in my opinion.

What a beautiful "album" !! As a John Coltrane endless "fan" I heard so much beautiful moments of music in here ! By 1963, knowing what was happening at the time, THAT band holds gold in its hands !! The leader is obviously a genius at saxophone playing and the rest of the band is absolutely explosive ! As one wrote (Rudy Van Gelder I may say) : the recorded music of John Coltrane is black and white whereas it was in colours "live" !! I think we definitely have a few colours here !! Endless thanks for posting/sharing, John's music is alive !!

It is wonderful to hear this, for the first time. 1962-1963 was a very fertile time for Trane, and a lot of the recordings made then were shelved. I am annoyed with Trane's family for sitting on these precious recordings for so long. It is over 10 years since I saw an article listing what was still unreleased. There is still quite a lot of unreleased material, even after the appearance of this new double album - for example, extra tracks from the session with Johnny Hartman. How much longer is Ravi going to sit on the unteleased material? The bottom dropped out of the CD market years ago. Get the stuff out before the tapes deteriorate! There is no excuse for the delay.

Influência para músicos de todo mundo, John Coltrane é um bom professor pra qualquer músico que se preze, n só técnicamente como tbm é uma porta de entrada para a percepção da música no seu contexto mais espiritual e intuitivo.

That is the only track from this newly-released collection that was released in the 60s. On that version, Trane plays soprano. This tenor version is new to us.
