Followed John when he won the Open , still got the program with his autograph from the practice day, what a guy, he was friendly, so much natural talent.

According to John he developed this swing as a result of growing up with long shaft golf clubs. Incredible

I grew up with that same problem, I always studied guys like John Daly and Vijay and els, because they always had insanely long backswings like I did lol, I always played with adult clubs from the age of 8, so difficult especially for how tiny of a kid I was

@dylanp7837 theres some mystic behind this here because it reinforces the ideal play what you got. Eliminates the whole "i need a titleist driver, i need new wedges" excuses excuses. Then there is this. Bet you played well

I tried to swing like that for some time. I saw that style first at Bobby Jones. The main feeling when you try to swing like that, is the open clubface in the backswing and then the massive bowing action of the left wrist to close the clubface in the downswing. It gives you rhytm, power and it also flattens the shaft. The long backswing gives you also time to move youre body and syncs up the swing. All in all is it a very nice motion to get rythm and power. The only Problem i had was clubface control. You really have to trust that motion and work it out. Otherwise you will hit some crazy OB hooks! When the hip stop to early and wrist comes in super bowed....good night 😂

These are the reasons he's my favorite golfer. Are there any other players with such long swings? I've got a fair bit of hypermobility; my swing feels unnatural, if abrupt unless well past parallel --save for situations that require as much (i.e., as little) like a pitch. likely out of habit, but I've never made a serious effort to shorten it. Maybe I'll correct it some day but kindof want to just learn how to propperly harness it and lag my long swing. I took some lessons when much younger (one guy tried to correct it) and mostly worked on controlling my long swing. Been swinging this way for a couple decades. lmk if anyone has examples of good long swings.

What a weird swing and one that is pure timing . His lead wrist is cupped at impact. Maybe the only pro ever. Wild
