I've known JD for over 30 years since his playing career at Arkansas. He was always the most gracious and big hearted guy around, often to his own detriment. It's nice to see that after many rough years of bad financial decisions, bad marriage decisions, etc. he has found a better place and turned things around just in time to be there for his son. He's always a great draw for the game of golf and hopefully he can continue to be that and continue to prosper and stay in good health.

I worked security at a tournament in Hilton Head, SC a few years ago and got a selfie of me with John Daly in the background. One of my favorite photos. Next best thing to playing with him (I assume). He did okay in that tournament - didn't win. Tiger won't play that course in Hilton Head because it too tight - yet Big John doesn't fear it. Forget the name - they start with a cannon shot, winner gets a plaid jacket and it follows the Masters.

I could listen to John all day long, great stories. I played the 18th on St Andrews when I was about 6, my dad dropped me over the wall in the middle of the fairway with a plastic kids set and told me to hit some balls so he could take photos, he did not tell me where the green was so I was hitting balls back to the tee box 😂 We went there several years in a row, I think the next summer there was the one where Nicklaus and Ballesteros played off. Me and my older brother climbed all the ladders to get into the scoreboard and figured out how to put our names up on it. Came back down and got chased up the street. John with his bowl cut mullet at St.Andrews is one of the greatest things I have ever seen. Now he should be auditioning for ZZ Top, speaking of LIV, Daly is more of a Great White Shark than Greg Norman ever was 😆

We are so blessed to have real people like Big John in the world. Who his friends are, and those that passed on, speak volumes about what kind of man he is. I seen Big John at the Kemper Open back in the early 1990’ ms when I was stationed as an active duty Marine on Quantico. He’s the reason I started playing golf. His drives were in many cases, hundreds of yards past all the others at the Kemper. The ground shook when he swung. WWG1WGA
@budhunsicker89042 жыл бұрын
Hundreds of yards? That might be a tiny bit exaggerated
@danielboeningGySgtDanGer2 жыл бұрын
@@budhunsicker8904 nope. Can’t remember the hole at the Kemper, but was sitting green side on one hole, and could look over and see tee box of another. Big John out drove his group by about 120yards. He had confidence in his driver when it was on. Then waiting on the group JD was in hitting to the green I was standing by, seemed like forever, a single ball bounded over the hill and rolled out at least 100 yards past the group. We knew it was John’s drive, and it was. Only ball in site. I followed him a few holes, and in a tree lined tee box, when JD hit his drive, felt like the ground shook. Worked our way over to the 18th, at about the 100 yard marker. Seen one ball come to rest at the top of a hill and thought it was JD. I was against the ropes on the left side of the fairway, and then I heard a ball pass within a few feet of me. JD’s ball. Can’t remember if it was his drive or not, but he was always at least 75 to 100yards further than the groups I stopped to watch.

I've followed JD since 91 and still have the DVD of his win that year in the PGA at Crooked Stick, where (I believe it was) Ian Woosnam said after the event, "I've encountered a lot of different hazards in my career, but I've never had to take into account the curvature of the earth." Crooked Stick is long. Daly's victory in that event was extraordinary, not least because he was 9th alternate, only got in when Nick Price's wife went into labour, and he had to drive throughout the night to get to the tournament, and tee off around the middle of the new day. What a gracious and wise man he clearly is. Humble, giving, seems to be in a really good place and doing a lot for the community, has raised great kids and loving his life. The win with his son John in the Parent and Child event was stunning, especially given the relentless spotlight and huge galleries for the pair that didn't win it.

John's been in some dark places but he's come out the overside shinning. He gets star struck by his friends in sports and music I bet he could tell some stories that would make your hair stand on end. He's aged well and has a massive heart.imagine being in his studio when his music buddies pop around for a jam Great interview flowed well and was great on the ear and the eye. Your a legend John and you will live forever 👍

I’ve seen this RV parked too many times to count in Upland,CA. One of his early sponsors hooked him up with a spot a couple miles from my home. He played in our mens club’s member guest years back at Empire Lakes. Down to earth as it gets.

What a guy! Shame on me…. For some reason I had never imagined JD would be so warm, open, kind, sincere or generous. He’s such a down-to-earth, genuine guy. No wonder he has so many friends and people that just want to hang out with him. Just a cool dude. Great vid so thanks a lot.

JD is a smart guy especially when it comes to his Motorcoach. An '07 is about the last year when they were made to last. He's got a Detroit Diesel motor without a lot of electronics and best of all it's pre- DEF (diesel exhaust fluid). Personally I like the late '90's early '00's rigs but an '08 is probably the "newest' coach I would ever consider purchasing...they are pre-DEF and pre-recession with awesome Detroit Diesel motors. Plus everything inside is solid wood with no cheap laminates. Believe me, an '07 will be on the road longer that the stuff being built today. I met John a few times back in the late '90s early '00s when he was with Callaway. I was a club fitter/tech in Las Vegas and he would come in to our facility when the Tour was in town to hit balls or pick up some Nordstrom Callaway stuff. He was always super friendly and approachable and an all around great guy. Glad to see he's still going strong after 20 years because Lord knows it was kind of up in the air back then lol.
