Heidegger's position on technology hones in on the danger inherent in technology. Being is turned into standing reserve, if and when it fails to be cognizant of the power held in technology's grasp. For example: in the business world, a decade ago CRM was envisioned as a strategy. today it is seen as a package solution. The latter has removed the human participant, turning him and her into standing reserve

This is very well done, and very few people will try to discuss Heidegger without staying stuck in minor details of his political biography. I'm curious what you think of Julius Evola, in light of this theme of technology and modernity.

After listening to this lecture, I’m interested in reading Heidegger, but will probably check out Lewis Mumford first due to easier accessibility. I read Spengler’s Man and Technics a couple months ago. Can you believe I found an old hardcover copy at a used bookstore for $3? I don’t think the bookstore understood what the treasure they had.

Yes, you're reading the right guys. When you get to Heidegger, though, start with something easy like "Notes Toward the Definition of Philosophy."

The John David Ebert Channel hey john, I like these philosophers but I also like Nietzsche, what works would you recommend to build off the first commenter here. I've already read a good amount of Plato, Socrates , Kant and Kierkegaard.

so sorry I missed this comment, @Lion117: My 3 daughters are Waldorf students and I wouldn't trade that experience for any other educational offering. I do see intimations of support, the one for the other, but I would also point out shared thought between Heidegger and the author of "The Glass Bess", Ernst Junger. The other practitioner of Heideggerian fiction, a writer not overlooked but this aspect so, is Thomas Pynchon. Gravity's Rainbow exhibiting a most profound example.

Would you spell out the German terms for the other two modes of being--not Dasein, but the other ones you mention in your video lecture--I'd like to look them up. Thank you!

Barfield noted that existentialism comes the closest to the spiritual, and it has many thibgs in common with it, but it cannoy go beyond a certain point. And berdyaev speaks positively as well of existentialists. In that they don't downplay the so called 'subjectivity' of man..
