John and I rode our dirt bikes around my Dads farm ( Higher Ernesettle Farm ) in our late teens [ 1980 - 1981 ] Amazing rider...we all knew he was special even back there. Kind regards to all who remember 'The Wellie Gang' hanging out at the infamous 'Peters Park Steps' in St. Budeaux and 'Wezes Garage' in Agaton road, Higher Ernesettle. Jim Stevens

I remember watching an interview by a French Journo on Eurosport. John was washing himself down with a hose pipe after a long hot day in the Dakar. The French Journo commented that he must be hot, but John replied "I had to take a piss three times during the race, but I only stopped twice" The comment was lost on the French Journo, but the British commentators were rolling on the floor laughing. Always the comedian, such a great loss. RIP JD.

He was a lovely bloke that you could always guarantee to have a laugh with.I remember being bollocked for being late at signing on at the Welsh 2 day Enduro and Deac’s turned up behind me who soon had as all in stitches with his wisecracks,which defused the tension instantly.He might be gone,but he’s definitely not forgotten.A great loss.
