Rewatched for the storytelling, the box blade process and the calming noise of the video! I love your channel and the content you provide!

First few runs, shorten the top linkage so that only the scarifer teeth bite in hard. Repeat until you have ripped up the entire driveway. Only then retract your teeth upside down. Then lengthen your top linkage which will allow the box blade to contact the ground . Keep making passes and lengthening the top linkage so that your final passes have the box blade level with the ground. Just practice

I love the bow blade! The way the material builds up, the sound of the scraping, the way the ground looks once completed....this video has a great camera too.

Nice job. I have a John Deere 1023E and the 5' version of your box blade from Frontier. The model # of mine is a BB2060L. You are correct about the 5' box blade probably being a little too much for the 1 series. However, I can accomplish exactly what you did in the video with your 4' blade. I just have to go about it in 2 different steps. My 5' blade has 5 scarifiers where yours has 3. I find that my tractor can pull all 5 in the lowest position but I have to shorten the top link more than you show in the video when I do. This way I am only ripping the ground and not trying to carry material at the same time because the loose rock and dirt can exit the back. I then raise the scarifiers back up and level the box. The tractor can pull all 5 rippers or move a full box of loose material. It just can't do both at the same time. One advantage of the 5' is I can easily grade right up beside a sidewalk, landscape timber, or concrete pad because the 5' is about 6" wider on each side of the tractor. Another huge advantage of my setup is I have a hydraulic top link. This makes the top link adjustment fast and effortless. Keep up the great content!

First few passes really need to be scarifiers only. No need for moving a box blade full of gravel...great job. Did mine yesterday .150 metres long.

If you need any crown in your drive, just adjust your three point hitch to make the outside lower. The crown helps with water runoff. I recommend driving all over your drive. If you just drive in the same tracks, that area will pack more and cause water to stand.

Just another helpful hint after using the scarifiers level your box blade on level ground and lock your down lever about an inch from the ground so you can’t drop the box blade all the way down and run back and forth that way then you won’t have gravel on both ends to remove it will distribute it out evenly
@thomasblincoe83253 жыл бұрын
I know it’s another piece of equipment to purchase but the best attachment I’ve found for gravel driveway maintenance is a land plane. The results are so much better than a box blade for finishing a gravel driveway. Each attachment has its purpose and I believe the land plane is the one for gravel driveways. Just my opinion and everyone has one.
@johnevans60533 жыл бұрын
This is what I was thinking. A Land plane with scarifiers is best for driveway maintenance. A Box blade is for moving large amounts of material from one place to another, which is not what driveway maintenance calls for.

I just found a used BB2048L at a dealership about an hour away. They wanted $500 for it and it was in fair shape, so I bought it before someone else did. (LOL) The dealer told me a new one was $1150. I personally wanted a 5 tine 5060L, but after running this smaller 2048L, I'm thinking the 5060L would have been pushing the limits of the 1025R. Not to say it couldn't do it, but you'd be really making the tractor work. My only real complaint about the 2048L is the 3 scarifiers. I wish it had more, becasue it leaves a huge gap between the scarifiers when you use them, making it necessary to have to do multiple passes. But more tractor time is more fun time. It did work well for me when I tired it out, and my driveway is much better.

I've been out of tune for a while but as fate would have it, I was looking for a video to do just this on my driveway. I was hesitant on the scarifiers as well but after watching this, I hope I can get mine to look that good! Thanks for posting! Great job!

Awesome job buddy. Looks great!. When I do driveways, the piles at the end, I raise the box, drive foreward, drop box to the ground and push backwards. I have my box leaning foreward, so the rear blade is about 1/4 to 1/2" off the ground. This helps to spread the piles as you back into them. Eventually it is all spread evenly and there is no pile to deal with. Great job though. If I ever get caught up doing my jobs, I will start recording again. I have been so busy I haven't recorded since our last snow fall.

My boxblade won’t stay up in the air without me physically holding the lever at the top

I bought a lightly used John Deere Frontier Box Blade, To move some dirt around & level out a space for a horse barn, Unfortunately before I could complete the project, I noticed the box blade sitting crooked, unlevel - found the mast support structures had bent significantly, So had to adjust the tractor level connection uneven to get it to ride halfway level to complete the project. It’s a poor design, No vertical supports between the mast to take the force of several hundreds of pounds of dirt or if you catch a root, etc… Took it to a dealer, who said they could straighten, But then wanted to sell me 2 new mast, Instead of fixing these, Wants $700 just to put 2 pieces of metal on. All because it was poorly design from the factory. I’ll find away to straighten it myself.
