Saving others countless hrs of frustration years later! I swapped v4 with v7 (flasher). Solved. Two diodes on order. PS you may need to disconnect the parking brake by pulling the cotter pin to get ar everything. Two washers one cotter pin.

Great video. It help me diagnose the same issue on my 2320. Diode on mine was located right at the fuel solenoid wiring plug. I did buy the $26 part from my dealer, but also experimented buying 1.5amp diodes from Amazon. I placed two of them together to get same readings as the original, stuck into the plug. Works great. Bought pack of 50 for $6. Have backups now. Thanks for the posting.

Thank you so much. I had the same issue and the V4 diode was the culprit. In my case the 2305 was idling and it died, restarting only starts for a second before dying just as described. Thank you so much.

Thanks for your video. I have similar isuue with my JD 2305. It starts and die as soon as ignition key is released. I replaced the v4 diode with new one however problem is still there. Then I removed solenoid and tractor remained started as in your video. As soon as I put the solenoid back the engine shuts off. I tried to start again however it die as soon as I release the key. This post is quite help full. However before going to do this whole exercise of changing v4 diode please check your dash board lights are on when key is in on position if lights are off it means the fuse is blown out. Check and replace the fuse and your tractor should be ok ( mine is working now), if not then go and check the V4 diode.

Thank you for the video! I came across it accidentally and watched anyway. Once i heard your tractor trying to start it was a "bingo!" moment! That's exactly what mine was doing. I was looking at replacing the fuel pump and not looking forward to it...no one seems to put anything like that up. Talked to my local John Deere dealer, got the diode (the parts guy had never heard of it before, but found one), stuck in in and voila! It runs!! Thanks much!

I watched your video last weekend, I ordered 2 diodes. This weekend I had my 2305 up & running in 10 minutes! I pulled the throttle handle off, took the 4 screws & 7 - 10mm bolts out & pulled the Dowling back enough to see the faulty diode. My diode was actually on top of the loom & easy to get to. Thank you for blazing the trail to an extremely frustrating, but extremely easy fix!

Thank you! This is the second time I have had to replace this diode. I suspect that I have been spiking it when I charge the tractor with an external charger in the spring. I have not disconnected the terminals when I charged the battery. I won't do that again. For those wondering, the part number of the diode is LVU804171. Ithilien got a quick shot of the package, which is where I got the part number. Thanks again, great video.

This video was absolutely perfectly done! When I got my 2006 2305 in 2015, I had a diode problem so was familiar with the disassembly, but back then that took hours. Between the helpful Green Tractor Talk correctly helping me with diagnosis of the current problem and then pointing me to this video, I ended up swapping out that same diode in less than an hour this time! That was exactly what was causing the problem. Thank you so much!

Having a bad back, finding and changing them was a real pain. Is the Green Tractor an open forum? I had a hard time finding anything on 2305 on the tube.

Big Help!. Ordered V4 diodes but the part is the V2 DIODE LVU804171 cited below not the V4 LV801850. Also some conflicting information in JD on line manuals. But....never would have worked through it without the help of the video. Thanks

What is the part # of the so-called diode ? I am having kinda the same issues that started with a lot of water in the fuel last year. All was cleaned and working great until this year with a loss of power when trying to work it. The next this was it stalled and hasn't started since. New filters, new fuel, all cleaned, new fuel pump but just cranks.

appreciate the information. 2 comments: 1. there was no reference to taking the cowling off under the steering wheel and the difficulty of getting the parking brake handle loose and 2. I skipped all the issues with the fuel solenoid, oil, oil pan and other not related items to my job. I went right to the diode and it was the problem. Thanks.

Great video!! My 2305 had the same issue. V4 Diode fix the issue. another test I was able to perform was to keep the KEY in the "Start Mode" which by passes V4 diode on the tractor which kept my tractor running. But as soon as I release the key after it started then the tractor would die.Once diode was replace Bam! fix the issue.

My JD dealer never suggested this issue even though they had my tractor for correction of same. They got it working after replacing the fuel filter, but the problem came up again. I replaced the diode, and what do you know, problem solved! Thanks big time for this video.

THANK YOU for posting this video!!! This was the perfect fix for my 2305. i would never have found the problem without your help! The part now costs $25 at John Deere but only $20 on Amazon. My local John Deere had to order the part but agreed to match the Amazon price and got it to me a few days sooner. Does anyone know what this Diode really does verses a fuse? Seems like over engineering to me.

is that diode you replaced also a 1.5amp? can I pull one of the 2 diodes that are above the 3rd diode just to troubleshoot?

Thanks for the video, Mine is a 2320, similar machine, The diodes for pull in, hold in windings are a little different, but the 3rd one is the exact same. Mine is not charging, with a new battery, and new voltage regulator, so I am hoping it is the diode. I wouldn't have found it , or thought of it , so thanks again.

I just bought a used 2305 and it was barely used but was sitting in a shed for about 4 years. It turns over almost starts but not just there. The John Deere dealer told me it was the shut off solenoid....now they tell me its the fuel injector ($4000 plus labour and tax). My question is can you trust the dealer? Do any of you have caught the J.D. dealer trying to skin you for extra money? I know the owner of my tractor it has barely 30 hours on it. No part should be this bad but I know sitting is not good for any engine.

I think this is what just happened on my JD 2520. Very similar harness. What STUPID CHEESY design engineering! They could have placed all the diodes and fuses on 1 easy to access, and clearly labeled panel. Would have expected better from an American company like John Deere!
