John Deere 2850 engine | strip down | How bad is it?!

So! I've found a spare engine for the 2140! In this video I will be dismantling this engine to see what needs replacing! Along the way its evidently clear that this engine has just about had it as there is so much wear throughout. So what better way to start and engine rebuild than by taking it all to bits!!

Wauw, that is black on every side of the casting. As I recently bought a 2140 myself I look for all possible tutorial videos for problems I might one day run into. This job I will follow up until the end. Can I just ask if you could put some extra work lights on the piece, so novice youngsters like myself get a good insight on what you are taking off and where it came from :D good job and keep doing what you are doing best!

It is a mess yes! I will be doing a full engine rebuild on this one soon! I am currently rebuilding a 6 cylinder model as we speak!

Yes definitely! I did try other breakers and they wanted a lot more for a lot less! and he did say that if there was any unexpected major problems with it that they'd help me out with it! cant ask for more really!!

Just out of curiosity, I’ve watched this video of yours as well as the 6 cyl rebuild videos and I was just wondering if the 50 series 6 cyl versions have ballancing shafts along side the crank?? As I’ve got a 3050 to rebuild at some point! TIA

It is definitely tired! But I'll be doing a full rebuild anyway! Better than having holes in the side of the block 😂

Your engine is not out of a 50 series,its a 40 series,the 50 series switched to a one piece balancer shaft with the weights cast into the shaft itself,rather than the bolt on type,less than half the weight of the big bolt on weights but it mostly overcame the problems with balancer Bush failures, Smallridge will confirm this,don't know how much money you intend to spend but it may be worth two 50 series balancer shafts when rebuilding it

Is that so? I was looking through the parts on vapormatic and I did notice there were 2 different types of shaft 🤔🤔 I will put it forward to the boys at smallridges and see what they say!!
