John Deere 175 hydro. I put all new deck bearings and blades on mine last spring. It's so quiet sometimes I look down to see if it's still cutting. Money well spent and very easy to do

Great video. I can’t believe people keep using blown decks when you get bearings for $3-8. I don’t have a press, but an air chisel works for disassembly and a hammer, a couple sockets and wood blocks work putting it back together.

I watched this video to find out how to put the spindles back in. Do they need a press ? What is the correct process. You didn't even mention the spindle install. More commentary would be SO appreciated. You have a mountain of knowledge and it would be great to learn some of it. I want to save these awesome tractors as well.

I recently made another video for a JD400 Deck rebuild. I believe there is more commentary in that one. Thanks for your comment.

It's sad that alot of the Tractors built after the early 1990's are Sealed Spindles that can't be rebuilt... 😪 I have a 1987 Craftsman GT6000, and "almost everything" is rebuildable. 😁 I'd rather rebuild something than have to replace, I learn more about my machine AND I can appreciate it more! Thanks for sharing this Spindle Rebuild Video! Take care, 🤓-Thomas

TK Skagen, those gt6000s are great! I had a mower from that generation that was an 11hp craftsman, it was great... the only thing is that I couldn’t find the right belt size... so I finally sold it & gave up. If I had a welder I could’ve made an adjustable belt tensioner so I can use any belt I want.

You’re lucky Norman that some of the bolts on the deck came out, most of the ones on my 37” on my 212 wouldn’t come out. Since then it’s been a year or two & I got one spindle out & after that I set it in our barn & used my Deere as a tug, but now that I got it running right I want to rebuild the deck, to use it.

Ah yes! Give me the smooth, well lubricated sound of a good mower anytime! Much nicer than the belt squealing from one or more pulleys!

I was going to say to be careful when tapping the spindle axle out so you don’t ruin the thread, and then you show the new spindle axle your using😁. Be sure to use good quality bearings, I bought cheap ones from Amazon and they only lasted a few months!

Really enjoy all your content. Specifically the Kohler K Series and John Deere 300/400 series videos because I have a 318 and 400. I have been able with your help to do a lot of repairs and maintenance for each tractor I otherwise wouldn't have been able to. One thing I have found limited info on, is adding a tach to an older two cylinder Kohler or Onan. I know my K532 has the dual coil ignition whereas my P218G has the electronic ignition. Have you ever installed one and if so what suggestions do you have? Thanks!

I love my 316, but sure wish it had the dual brakes feature that was on the 140 and the 318.

bought the dual brake assembly (from a 318 parts seller) on ebay for my JD316, installed it in about 15 minutes. What a difference. Next up, H2 on the 316,

Just got my first Deere, a mint 180 for 100 bucks, and been beating on the double pulley bearing shaft stuck in the deck for 3 days. Other than that, Deere is engineered very well to make it easy for the DIY guy.

My John Deere was made in 1964 and parts or very hard to find . It has 39 inch deck . It had a 8 HP motor but it cracked and I replaced it will an 11 HP . The deck needs just about everything.

A 64 should have a 38 deck. The very early 64 had welded decks, most have stamped ones. Most parts are available and not outrageously priced as the core design stayed in production until 87 on the 200 series. I have a 63 with the stamped deck and was able to order spindle parts, a tensioner assembly and blades last year.

How did you get the bearing out on the side without the snap ring? Also, where did you get those snap rings? Great video by the way!

most often , at least for me , the heads on those carriage bolts are rusted just enough that they'll spin in the housing . i've taken to tightening them till they wring off . easier/faster than grinding the nuts off .

I have a k241 on a wheel horse 310-8. Do you have a throttle linkage without the ball joint. I burned mine off after a fire from a backfire. I dont know what was there just a burned rod was left. Was cleaning with carb cleaner and then the backfire lit all that.

Does the orientation of the spindle matter? I can see that one of the bolt slots is machined slightly differently. I didn't index mine when I removed them.

Hey Norman, another great video... I bought your Kohler ignition tune up kit for my Wheel Horse C-121. I didn't go to your site for this, but do you sell the components necessary to refurbish a 48" WH deck? Thanks, and keep up the good work....

I have a 316 JD with 46" deck that keeps throwing the deck belt when you engage the mower?? I was thinking bearing or pulley issues? Please help Thanks
@Isavetractors
@Isavetractors 3 жыл бұрын
Sharp edges and heat from friction causes belts to prematurely fail. Could be both the pulleys and bearings.

Do you have a source and or part number for those snap rings? Thanks
@joehead1294
@joehead1294 4 жыл бұрын
Those cast iron spindles are hefty. The snap rings can be a MF to remove sometimes causing injury and some salty language. The round disc where the blade mounts can be unscrewed from the shaft. Mine lasted a long time with the upper bearing wearing out and the lower bearing with hardly any wear. Still had the original grease which was in good condition. Lower bearing in contact with grease, upper bearing not so much. Funny thing, most spindles are the first thing to go, on this machine the spindle outlasted the mower.

I didn't see any warning about buying new spindles that have a grease zerk, And yet still have the seal on one side of the bearings. The inside bearing seal needs to be removed, Or the grease cannot get to the bearings.
@Isavetractors
@Isavetractors 5 жыл бұрын
Removing shields form sealed bearings to add more grease is a bad practice and shouldn't be done. Sealed bearings have the right amount of grease in them already. Leave them, use them for their intended lifespan, then replace.
@TheEyerobot
@TheEyerobot 5 жыл бұрын
@@Isavetractors When i opened the bearings there was barely enough grease to wet your finger. I seriously doubt that grease would have made it more than a month. Also the manufacturer advised me to remove those inner seals before use. Because i had questioned them about why they leave them on, And include a grease zerk.
