This is one of the better videos I've seen, I need to adjust my steering brake and clutch but most of the information I've seen thus far has just pictures through the hole, this one helps you see exactly what's going on to make more sense of doing the adjustment

How did you get the two lower bolts on the inside (the funny shaped ones)

Do you mean those bolts with the weird bulge in the middle?

We had to take out the foot plate on that side to gain access to those bolts.

Don't use keepem crawling for parts ,i called and waited 3 weeks for a call and still have never heard from them yet ,i wanted a price on 2 steering clutch kits

did you have to put jack stands under the machine?

Great question! No, we didn’t because we only did 1 track..if we had done both tracks simultaneously we would have needed to use jack stands to support the machine. Thanks, Leonardo, & good luck!

Great set of videos. I just bought an old JD 440ic, and it only steers to the right. A bit annoying to back up to turn one way, and going forward to turn the other way. I'm hoping it will just be an adjustment. What did you think of the condition of all the parts you replaced? Would the clutch have been OK for a few more years? Of course, one always hates to do that much work then have it go bad because of a $10 bearing.

Hi Clifford! Thanks for watching! We appreciate it! The parts we took out (clutch fibers & steels) probably could have been reused…but when you go that deep, just replace it all, including the brake band! It’s important to replace the brake band because that’s part of stopping the track when you’re trying to turn. Just repairing the steering clutch & not replacing the brake band will cause it not to steer properly. There are a lot of critical adjustments you need to make when you’re doing this. Be careful about buying after-market parts for the clutch plates because there can be clearance issues-specifications are in the repair manual for clutch disc clearance (this is critical to be within specification). This sounds like the same problem we had with steering….we pushed ours about as far as we could…it was time to replace!
