I was about to say heat up and bend a wrench to work. Nice your dad had already done that.

Yep, I have a custom bend wrench in my tool box for that starter bolt too. It's definately a challenge to get at if you don't have one. I think if you take off that solenoid on top of the starter you can get at it better, seems to me I did that on my 6030 before I made that wrench. And I never did like that two 6 volt battery set up. When the batteries went bad on my 6030 and 8440 I switched over to two 12 volt batteries run parallel and have never had a problem since. The guy at our local starter/alternator shop once told me the worst thing for a starter is to have weak batteries when you try to crank it, you need that good shot of juice or those connections inside will be trying to fuse together and burn. it happened on my 4020 a few years ago, it cranked over, started, but the starter didn't disengage. I had to pull the positive cable off the battery for it to stop spinning. Had to replace it.

That makes sense. I have been down that road with the starter not disengaging.

Yep, JD makes a special wrench to get that last bolt out.

Lol you are welcome! I gave the part number first on TikTok 😂. Maybe that extra fuse/mess was for a 12v accessory at one point like a winch or something

Damn john Deere over engineers everything so much, but at the end of the day it’s just another color with the same problems. Lol. Changed the starter on my versatile. Got a big truck one off the shelf and had it off and back on within an hour. Bolts out in the open and easy to get at. Why can’t these other manufacturers think of this stuff.
