I had a 4640 and it was an excellent tractor to me. Bought it with 4471 hours and sold it after I quit farming with 6650 hours. If I would have had work for it I would have kept it. Only needed to rebuild the water pump and charge the air conditioning during those hours. Oil changes at 100- 150 hours and used the JD plus 50 oil. Think it would have made 15,000 hour the way I cared for it. Served me well!

I had a 4640, as I stated on another tractor sale. If I had purchased my 1980 4640 outright instead of trading another for it, the price would have been $36,000. It was one heck of a tractor.

In August 1982 I purchased a 1974 4430 all new from the clutch back with 327 hrs on rebuild in perfect condition for $12,500.00 .

Got lot of respect for Kinze...he put John Deere on their knees for awhile on some of his patents.

I had rather own a 4640 quad range than a 4840 powershift.
@hunsadersrockinranch5 жыл бұрын
Same here! I had both and the powershift would jump during shifting from time to time.

I dont remember actual numbers but when my grandma had the farm sale we sold the 4555 mfwd with 295ish hours for over 80000 dollars.

As a far as things are concerned it must be nice to have the money that JK has to come in & scoop up these tractors.On a positive note he will not be able to take any of this stuff with him when he passes away.The farm economy cannot be that bad for nearly 100 grand to be spent on 2 1970s tractors

I wonder how many more low hour 30, 40 and 50 series tractors are still out there that no one knows about.

nice to see the family getting top dollar for the tractors they obviously took care of, now they are taking care of the family by bringing top dollar no matter who the bidder was. Seems to me everyone got the best from the auction.

Always wondered how or why guys bought tractors and never used them. Its awesome to find them just want to hear the stories.
@MrNobody28284 жыл бұрын
Better to buy atractor than 130 horses. When you turn the key off on a tractor, it quits eating.
@torqued6665 жыл бұрын
Why are these so valuable now? Does it anything to do with the new equipment?
@fartnloud74115 жыл бұрын
A lot has to do with it being practically new with low tech that you can fix yourself in the garage instead of the new tech loaded ones you have to have a dealership to repair

About the only good thing I can see as to Kinzenbaw getting it is that it will be preserved for posterity's sake instead of being worn into a pile of junk on a farm. There are other 4640's that are not pristine that can be used for farm work. The 4640 is probably the finest tractor that John Deere made after the 4020's and the 730's. After the Iron Horse series John Deere never did make a good tractor again.
@jameswest6735 жыл бұрын
Id have to disagree with you a little 7810 is a mighty fine tractor. Though it does go to crap after that.

If for some reason I have to sell my tractors, my 1960 730 diesel electric start will be the last to go. Love that tractor.

EVERY FUCKING TIME!!!! Makes my blood boil somebody spends $60,000 on a tractor and the minute after the hammer drops somebody else leans on it or stands on it or something. Kid leaning clear over the hood. 😡😡 a couple great buys for Jon though.

Actually the auction had been scheduled long before. Dad had been in poor health for some time and retired from farming for many years

So instead of somebody's having a chance to purchase a good quality older tractor at a reasonable price to use it for what it was INTENDED FOR, some Rich old guy steps in and bits the price Way up so that he could add it to his "collection". It just seems like a dirty shame. That old guys probably going to be pushing up daisies pretty soon what's he going to do with something like that? Just stand there and look at it in his "collection"? I'll make sure never to visit the Kenze Center. Sorry if I sound like a party pooper but that stuff just irks me.
@samtalley7915 жыл бұрын
FRANsylvania Maple I think Mr.Kinzenbaws intentions is more for everyone to be able to enjoy looking at the tractor. The point of buying at an auction is that an item will sell for whatever somebody thinks it is worth. He bid fair and square like everybody else and felt it was worth more to him than anybody else felt. He did no wrong doing and shouldn’t be bad mouthed because of his actions.
@frankeem38205 жыл бұрын
I totally understand. I know he bought the tractors fair and square. I was not bad-mouthing the gentleman I was expressing my opinion and I am allowed to do that. I know this for sure, I wouldn't treat people like that. Have a good day.
@watchjaredwork14875 жыл бұрын

@@samtalley791 For everyone? Yes he has guided tours on his facility but waiting times to get a ticket are more then a year, heard storyes about ppl who contacted Kinze had to wait for 3-4 years
@JDseller15 жыл бұрын
Well I guess you think that the family selling the tractor should take less money for the tractors IF some young fellow was bidding on them????Several points. 1) This tractor is more a collector piece than a working farm tractor. 2) In most farming operations of today, this tractor would have limited use as it is too small. I used to back off bidding if I saw a younger fellow bidding on some thing. Thinking I was helping a fellow get going. All to often I then see that same young fellow driving a brand new high dollar pickup or see him sell the item for a profit a few weeks later. So I just ignore who is bidding against me and go to what I feel is "my" price.
