John Deere 624K with Craig snow plow and wing.
The road agent in the neighboring town asked me to help push back the sides of the town roads he maintains. He plows with a 3/4 ton pickup and Vplow but with the past few storms and high winds drifting in some parts of the roads the banks were getting to high for the truck. Most of the road was done with just two passes some areas took several passes. At the end of the day my dad showed up so I stuck the GoPro to the back of his vehicle.
Both parts of this video are of the same section of road during the first and second pass. The banks are pushed back the the ditch line and left 12 - 16 inches high.

I’m surprised that they don’t have a bigger truck to take care of the roads. Is there not enough area that they would require a bigger vehicle to plow with? Awesome video and your are a great man for helping. We need more people like you in the world. It would make it a better place.

I believe that is the longest and only town road that guy plows. I think everything else he does are private yards. He does a really good job with just a 3/4 ton pickup and only calls in help when the banks get to high or before the banks creep out into the road.

This operator KNOWS this road , where the problems are , notice he adjusts the wing hight here & there . I also used to do this 71-74 in Canada , Champion grader , my Wing (14ft) was post mounted , more to the rear, & when I came to a power pole I just dropped the heel of the wing & immediately lifted , but it would not lift , due to snow load ,this would cause the rear of the grader to slide sideways , correcting for skid with steering wheel , & as the wing started to clear it would lift , missing the pole , then reset for hight & keep trucking about 15mph

So we use a 7430 John Deere with a straight blade (HLA) on it, I see you use a 6430 and a 624 payloader, which one do you feel is the best for snow removal? Thanks for the videos.

Hard to say one is better than the other, the tractor is better in smaller yards and can run my snowblower. The loader has more power can push banks up higher and has the wing. The tractor is faster but has little traction, the loader is slower but with the chains on is practically unstoppable. If I had to pick one I guess it would be the tractor because it has more versatility between the plow, bucket and blower. Thanks for watching

Looks like front chains, anything on the rear? does the force of the wing end up scooting the tail around? Home made rig or something built for the purpose?

Chains on all four tires, it does push the back end out if you try to take to much at once and it is a manufactured set up by Craig Manufacturing out of Canada. I have another video that shows the plow setup closer.

Would a couple community mail boxes placed at certain spots with snow markers in the area be better for the plowing crews to insure that people still get there mail and that a simple wheel loader to clear the snow from in front of them
@TB-jj9tu
@TB-jj9tu 5 жыл бұрын
All the mailboxes for this road are all together at the intersection where this road meets the state road. Makes it nice for this kind of job because there is one less thing to plow around.

I don’t know all the details, all I know is that the guy who takes care of the roads calls me or another local construction co when the roads need to be pushed back. Small towns like this can’t justify the coast of a big piece of equipment that might only get used a few times a year.

Nice job you're doing there . One would think that the town would invest in some decent snow removal equipment and not rely on a guy with a pick-up truck and a plow . Hope you got some good coin for doing this . Your fuel costs , time and wear and tear on your equipment . You would be a good choice for a snow plowing contract .

It’s a really small town and he does an amazing job with just a pickup. My town has a Dodge 5500 with a plow and wing and even that truck is getting overwhelmed this year. Just one of those winters. Thanks for watching.

TB awesome work! your town sure benefited from heavy equipment! i can see a medium duty dodge truck getting overwhelmed with this! here in North Central Indiana we have had what I would saw was a mild winter!! ice didn't stick for long. ground did freeze and if got down to -15*F with a -30*F windchill though.

TB I can totally get that! I was working in Indianapolis Indiana during 2013- 2014. I worked in a truck shop but helped with the 40 acre property which was semi trailer parking and a 320 door dock. I primarily operated a Wa180 komatsu wheel loader with a snow pusher, but also had to pull out multiple trucks! -20*F and -30*F windchill will get to you. I also ran two highway plow trucks and a F250 with a plow at that property. semis were single drive axle. not good at all!

The second pass looks a lot like the first pass. The bench is a foot lower and the bank is slightly higher. From the cab view it would hardly be noticeable.
