I have built sleds and pulled for years, i own a built 1155. It was all weighting. I got beat by a farmall M at a jerk pull because the chain was level and they were weighted 90% on the rear, i had unhooked the disk and went no cab no fluid or weight 12980 lb. But 260hp no turbo just did a high gear smoky burnout on asphalt for show and never moved the deadweight sled! This pull is limited to 5mph. Horsepower is largely irrelevant. Thats why the 1155 couldn't use his hp you can see him wind it up and then pull it back several times because he broke 5mph. Probably also limited to first gear thats why no smoke on spinout. Straight out of field, stock drawbar, not hooked under axle. Hook a 25' disk on both in the field and 1155 walks away and keeps going, trust me, at 100 hp working down that low that 2cyl explodes in about 30mins. Allow any speed and 1155 walks away, my naturally aspirated V8 has FAR more bottom end torque than any comparable turbo six. The operating range is from 800 to 2600. At 1000 rpm i can dump the clutch and lift the front end in 11th out of 12 gears pulling, but not enough hp for the end, so i use 4th. Perkins are NOT internationals! They weigh 2x as much and were developed for tug boats, not highway trucks. Cat 3208's and international 549's are throw-away motors (no sleeves, cant plane heads) i can replace my lifter bores without disassembling the engine. It was designed as a 640 CI marine 100% duty cycle engine at 600+hp for months Straight! The main and rod journals are 1" larger! And 4 more main bolts. Very expensive tho so not as popular. with proper oiling the rear ends hold 800hp. Perkins is Not a 50% duty cycle, short stroke, n/a cheaper option to a 466 six cylinder turbo like the international I proved this by throttling mine down to 900 at the end of the track, then stabbing the throttle and pulling a gear, lifted the front tires and asked him where he wanted the boat at the end of my weight class! The sixes fell on their butts at 2000 rpm like a rock. It is white cast not grey (harder) and all threads in the block are fine (not possible with grey cast) it has replaceable seats on all valves, my heads weigh more than an IH block! It is hand finished and surface ground on everything not milled. Simply NO comparison!! Watch "Warpath" pulling. They weren't around for years because the heads suck for flow and so the MF express tractor had custom billet aluminum heads. He was almost unstoppable so they banned billet heads. Forgot 20yrs later and permitted them. Carlton Cope got those heads on a 640 in a 2805 "warpath" in 2010 won way too much against the 466ci sixes, accelerated where they stopped! so they restricted his turbo!! Don't believe everything you see! No replacement for displacement Allis Chalmers was 426 vs 540 or 640. There's two ways to pull, distance or percentage, percentage is weight on the pan when you stop compared to your weight. HP, balance, and speed win! JD not even in the game! They quit the 2cyls because a 100hp engine tractor became 2x as heavy as a six due to massive power pulses destroying rear ends. All that said I'd take that 820 home in a heartbeat they're very cool iron! I also would own the 1468. And 2-170 white. Actually i think the best looking tractors are the international 1400 and 1500 series and the D-21 Allis! Just different!

A Deere 2 cylinder will outlast pretty much any motor working like that. they arn't happy unless they are beig down down 4-500 rpm. Heard stories of a 720 diesel that was bought new to run a belted water pump in a mine/quarry pumping water. it ran 24 hours a day every day, got fueled up running and was only ever shut off to change oil. It rolled the tack 3 times, had over 36,000 hrs and had never been apart. It was so badly worn that it was scrap, but amazing it lasted that many years doing that job.

1155 was the 540 Perk no Turbo. I always thought the 510 was better engine in the 1150. JD 820, that old 2 banger was a 470 stock! Not a slouch. Great weight distribution, slow turning, GOBS Of Torque. both rears stayed hooked up, were as the 1155 spun right out 1 tire. Not a surprise to see that ol 2 Banger outlug it. Watched an 830 woop a 4020 in 92 at our county fair. 292 vs 299 for the 830. Then Dick Caban came out with the "Pulling Pollack" and proceeded to go 320 before shutting it off and driving it back on the trailer (4020, but it was probably a 531 shoved in it LOL)

The guy with the JD really knew his stuff about weight and balance. Torque had zero to do with it because neither stalled out. Actually a smart car motor with the same hp geared right would do the same in it (but for FAR less hours and be annoying to drive) because hp is torque x rpm. 1 ftlb at 5250 rpm = 1 hp. Perkins will last as long as JD because shorter stroke = less ring wear and less bearing speed at same rpm. in say a 15000 lb class the lighter JD has more movable weight added to put where you want it. Kudos to him on his pull and nice tractor!
